Geno slowly, shakily turned his head to look at Reaper. The death god was staring directly at him with wide eyesockets. Both of them were blushing bright blue and red respectively, and neither of them could seem to say anything.
Reaper scratched his cheekbone with his index finger, looking up at the ceiling and chuckling nervously. "Is anything actually gonna happen?" he asked. Maybe he wasn't really asking and just wondering aloud.
"I-I-I don't know!" Geno said a little too loudly, balling his fists as his face turned even redder. Then, more quietly, "Do you want something to happen?"
Reaper's blue flush grew darker and he looked a little shellshocked. "M-maybe?!"
Geno jumped and hid his face behind his scarf. After a minute, he peeked out and said quietly, "Maybe... we could kiss?"
"Really?" Reaper's face brightened up and he leaned toward his mortal crush. "Let's do it!"
Geno flinched back, his one visible eye light darting left and right. With a nervous face, he pulled his scarf down, but he was too anxious to do anything else. Reaper grinned through his blush and leaned in more, clicking his teeth up against Geno's.
Geno felt his soul thumping and slowly closed his eyes, letting himself melt into the sensation. He reached his hands up and put them on Reaper's shoulders, and Reaper wrapped his arms around Geno's waist, pulling him closer.
After a minute, the kiss ended, and their faces separated again. Geno blushed and shyly tucked his head, casting sideways glances at Reaper's huge grin. "Heh." The death god laughed to himself and touched his forehead to Geno's, gazing shamelessly into his eyesockets. "Does this mean I can start using romantic puns?"
"Like, 'I've been dying to kiss you'?" Geno grinned shyly.
Reaper laughed until little tears formed in the corners of his sockets. "Yeah," he said in a voice so warm it was melting. "How's about another kiss of death to send you straight to heaven?"
Geno's eyes became watery and he lifted his face for another kiss. He felt his teeth clink against his lover's, tingling with both of their magic, and his soul beat against his rib cage. Every time his fractured soul pounded it hurt unbearably: it stung and ached and burned all at once. Geno was no stranger to pain, but this was really something.
Their kiss intensified. Reaper moved one of his hands down Geno's spine to the top of his pelvis and stroked it gingerly. Geno's soul thumped hard and a small cry escaped through his teeth. Reaper paused his stroking and kissing for a moment and looked at him in concern. "Are you alright, Geno?"
"It... it h-hurts," the mortal moaned, taking one of his hands off of Reaper's shoulders to clutch above his soul. He was breathing in soft gasps and his sockets were wet, but he put on a weak smile for Reaper. "But... I'm okay... I'm used to pain."
Reaper smiled tenderly and stroked Geno's cheekbone with the back of his skeletal hand. "I'm used to hurting people," he said in reply. He pulled Geno in by the chin and delivered a smaller, more careful kiss... but it wasn't any less passionate than the last one.
Geno's fragmented soul thumped repeatedly, agitating its jagged edges and beating against his ragged rib cage. He whimpered and clutched his shirt tighter in his fist, but insisted on showing Reaper a smile through his tears. "If it's you hurting me, I might actually like it, just a little."
Reaper grinned and made their foreheads touch again. "I might not hate causing a little pain if I can make you happy." He held the mortal a little tighter, provoking another weak cry. "And I like those sounds you're making."
"What, are you a sadist?" Geno murmured in a voice that feigned disapproval.
"Heh, maybe a little. But you, Geno," the death god stroked the mortal's back. He winced and moaned as his shattered ribs were traced by thin fingers, "you're a serious masochist. I mean, who else would ruin their life to make it eternal and then spend every day courting death? Heh heh."
Geno rolled his eyes, "Stop talking," and made their teeth touch again.
