My eyes opened wide and in one flurry of a movement I pushed Eleanor away, our lips parting. My face was as red as a beetroot and I held one hand out, suggesting Eleanor to 'stay back', even though she was taller than me and could probably take me down without a sweat.
"What the hell?!" I said, wiping my lips clean.
Eleanor just sighed and fixed a accomplished grin on her face. She stood there, her fist grasping the air, like she had just won something and she was quietly congratulating herself. Then she suddenly burst into a fit of giggles. I stared at her blankly. What the heck was going on? She finally calmed down and took a breath to speak.
"I knew it! I knew you were a girl the first time I saw you!"
Oh god. She knew. Was I that obvious?
I gasped and quickly looked around, hoping no one had heard, but it seemed to be just me and Eleanor. Just in case I grabbed her arm, ran up the stairs two at a time, and practically dragged her into my room before shutting the door.
I turned to look at her.
"How did you know?" I asked, desperate to find out how my act had failed.
Eleanor tugged me onto the bed and we sat down facing each other. Now that she knew I was a girl she had no problem treating me like a girl friend. The action reminded me of gossip sessions I used to have with Rachel.
"I got the hint in the tour bus. As we were leaving I happened to see Niall giving you something and your face said it all. The longing stare... the heavy and suppressed breathing..."
I cleared my throat, looking away awkwardly.
"Anyway," she continued, "My suspicions were finalised when I saw your knock over the drum set. As you bent down I saw a glimpse of the fabric that you wrap around your chest."
"You looked down my top?" I burst, interrupting her.
"I was curious!" She said, ruefully. "When I accidental bite into something, I have to eat the whole thing." The analogy was strange but made sense in a weird way. It seemed like the kind of thing Louis would say.
"You're so nosy!" I wailed.
"Do you want me to finish, or not?" She asked, looking at me with a sassy expression.
I bit down on my tongue.
"Thank you. As I was saying... my needed to make sure, so when you arrived tonight I kissed you, fully aware that if you were a guy you would probably take the kiss first hand, but if you were a girl you would push me away and blush from embarrassment. And that's exactly what you did."
She nodded, like she was very pleased with her logic.
"That's quite clever when I think about it." I admitted.
"I thought so too. I'm sorry if I was a bit abrupt. I figured you wouldn't tell me if I just asked. Trust me, it was a last resort."
"Don't worry about it."
But that didn't seem to persuade Eleanor that I was okay, so she persisted with the topic.
"I made sure it wasn't your first kiss. I checked with Louis... and don't worry; he doesn't know a thing! I'm very good at keeping secrets. And I promise I'll keep yours."
"How did Louis know it wasn't my first kiss?"
"He told me about the plane incident." I suddenly went bright red, remembering the moment. Eleanor seemed to notice. "I know your embarrassed but don't stress, Harry has kissed many girls and odds are he can't even remember it. And I'm sure it's not a big deal to you either. It couldn't have been your first kiss."
