It turned out the Inspector and the Assistant Inspector left while I was having a mental breakdown. They had to get back to their investigation. Officer Park Jimin had disappeared too. But he was always close, Officer Jeon Jungkook assured me. Just as he would be close to me too.
He showed me the house. He showed me the bathroom, the small library – if you could call it that – and then showed me the room upstairs he and Officer Park Jimin were staying in. There were two beds on opposite sides of the room, shoved against the walls. In the middle was a small desk with lots of computer screens. They showed footage of the security camera's outside. The officers would take shifts to do rounds and check the video feed on any suspicious activity.
He then showed the smallest room on the top floor. It was a small room changed into a closet. There were racks on three sides of the room, all filled with clothing. On one side it was all black, and obviously for both the officers. The other side was covered with colorful clothing; dresses, tops, sweaters, jeans, skirts. The bottom two shelves in the back of the room were filled with police boots. All the shelves above those were filled with sneakers in all kinds of colors and sizes. There were bags, wallets and belts lined up on all the tops shelves around the room. It looked like a small store.
"The person who was here before you, had to be here for a long time." He explained. "She made sure the people who'd come here after her would be properly dressed."
"What happened to her?" I asked, hoping for an answer I could build my hopes on.
"She returned home safely, after we had finished our job." He said with a smile.
I let out a sigh of relieve.
I went into my room after I said a short goodbye to him and he assured me he would be in the next room or downstairs if there was anything I needed. I laid down on my bed and thought about what had happened and what I was going to do about it. I turned to my side and felt the bizarre happenings catching up on me. Without knowing it, I fell asleep.
Soon after, the nightmare started. I saw his eyes, the obsession. The sadistic smile around his lips. I saw him hacking into the body of the dead woman, her eyes staring - lifeless. I saw a pool of blood spread under her, filling the holes in the sidewalk. As soon as he saw me he sprinted towards me, the knife in his left hand dripping with blood. He reached me and grabbed my neck. He lifted me up with just one hand and laughed, a deep and roaring sound. He was holding his prey and he was loving every moment of it. He scraped my face with the point of his knife and licked his lips. He hadn't shed enough blood to calm his thirst for violence. He was not finished yet and I could see my own mangled corpse reflecting in his eyes.
I screamed and tried to get a grip on his arm to get away from him. I kicked my feet, but I could not touch him. I screamed soundless, no one would hear me. The blood, splattered all over his face, looked like holes in his skin. As I saw the hunger in his eyes grow he pulled his left arm backwards and thrusts it forward, into the flesh of my stomach. A sharp pain in my abdomen woke me up from the nightmare.
Officer Park Jimin was standing next to me with a pale face and scared eyes.
"Are you okay?! Can you hear me? Please wake up!" One of his hands was on my shoulder and shook it as careful as possible. When he saw I woke up he wiped the sweat on his forehead. The panic in his eyes reflected mine. I pushed his hand away while sitting up.
"I'm fine. Sorry for scaring you. I had a nightmare." I still felt the cold, sharp metal in my side. "I'm okay." I mumbled.
Officer Park Jimin let out a sigh of relieve. He took a step back with his hands on his hips. He breathed heavily.
"Jungkook would have killed me if something happened to you." He said under his breath, assuming I couldn't hear him. "Please take your time calming down a little, I came here to tell you dinner is ready downstairs. But I heard muffled screams and you were talking. Sorry for barging in without permission. I was afraid something happened to you." Drops of sweat rolled down the side of his face.
"I'm okay, I will be right out." But my heart was still pounding like crazy and I wondered if it would ever calm down completely.
