“Clark?” She murmured.

He turned around; she saw the transition in his face when he clicked onto who she was. He half smiled, pulled a chair next to him and patted it. He raised his eyebrow, questioning whether she was going to sit down or not, she rolled her eyes and took the seat. She had not noticed how close the two chairs had been. Until she felt the warmth radiating from him, it was inviting, a warmth that you do not want to move away from. Her heart started to beating fast, he rested his hand on his lap, only inches away from hers. She made her hand busy by reaching in her bag for her apple, attempting to distract her from thinking about how close they were she recited facts about the Greek mythology. Clark rested his chin on his hand and stared at Ellie, with a smirk on his face.

“You face is going purple.”

“Mmm, it’ll clear in a few days. Luckily for me, he held back this time.”

“This time?”

“Yeah.”

“I meant, he’s hit you before?”

“Yeah. If I’m lucky it’s only once a week.”

“If you’re lucky? What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Me? I’m not the one punching people.”

“No, but you’re taking it.”

“Like I said earlier, I’d rather it be me than someone else.”

“So people just expect you to take it?”

“Yeah, pretty much.”

“And he gets away with it?”

“Is this your first school? He’s the king; he can do whatever he wants. Nobody disturbs his power, not even the teachers.”

“What the hell have you done to make him so angry?”

“That’s fine; just assume that I did something. His girlfriend started this.”

“Roxy?”

“Unless he has another, yes.”

“What did she do?”

“Kissed me. Claimed she didn’t know it was me and thought it was Jason.”

“She kissed you?”

The thought of that witch kissing Clark made her angry and he could tell.

“Jealous?” He wiggled his eyebrows and smirked.

‘Yes’ she thought.

“Hardly.”

“I mean, it would be okay if you were. I’d be if you kissed my brother.”

Ellie’s cheeks went red.

“He flung me against a locker. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be kissing him anytime soon.”

“Good.” He chuckled “You could do better.”

‘Good, what the hell does that mean?’ she thought.

“Who?” she muttered.

“Me for one” He wiggled his eyes again “Anyone really, Jason is a dick.”

‘ME?! Is he flirting?’ Ellie focused on her apple, taking a bite out of it. A girl from the other side of the table stood up and dragged her chair next to Ellie. The girl sat there and smiled at her.

“Hey, I’m Alice.”

Ellie swallowed the piece of apple and smiled back.

“Ellie.”

She took back her comment about Clark being the only model, she was stunning. She was petite with looks of a doll, her hair was perfect, and not a single piece was out of place. She looked best when smiling, she had an attractive smile.

“So, you’re the girl that got Clark punched.” She giggled.

“I-I never asked him to help.” She attempted to claim her innocence.

“You don’t have to, if anyone looks like they need help, he’ll give it. He likes being the knight in shining armour. “

“Shut up Alice.” Clark burst.

She stuck her tongue out at him and laughed. Ellie took another bite out of her apple.

“What class do you have next?” She asked.

To save her the embarrassment of talking with her mouthful she pulled out the timetable and handed it to her.

“Oh cool, you’ll be with me next.”

She passed the sheet along the table; Ellie looked to see what class it was.

‘Physical education, great.’ She swallowed the chunk of apple.

“By the look on your face, I’m guessing you don’t like P.E?” She laughed.

“Not in the slightest.”

“Ah, that’s okay; you can pair up with me. We have tennis.”

Ellie’s stomach sank; she could not play tennis to save her life. She finished her apple and turned to Clark, who was already staring at her.
