Prelude
Plumes of smoke raised from the planet Mobius. Cities were being destroyed, lives were being lost. The whole planet was in the shadow of the Egg Fleet. Warships were deploying more of Eggman's mechs every hour on the hour. In a partially destroyed house, Sonic was sitting in a corner, his arms resting on his knees and his head buried in his arms. Suddenly, a noise came from outside. Sonic looked up to see what it was. As the door slowly opened, a white glove with spiked knuckles held the side of the it as it was opening.
"Knuckles..." Sonic said under his breath.
Knuckles came into Sonic's view.
"I can't find him, Sonic. Eggman's mechs must've gotten to him."
Sonic buried his head back into his arms. Knuckles walked over and sat down next to Sonic, putting his arms on his knees.
"We'll find him, Sonic."
"I wasn't there for him, man. I failed him."
"There was nothing you or any of us could've done."
"There's always something I can do."
"Don't beat yourself up. Besides, if were gonna win you can't be focused on your self-doubts. You're gonna need to get your head in the game if we wanna come out on top. If we wanna show that egghead who's boss!"
Sonic lifted his head up and looked at Knuckles.
"Yeah, we'll show that egghead! If he thinks he can take over our world he's got another thing coming!"
Sonic got up and walked over to the window; Knuckles followed.
"Let's go save my brother."
