I sat on the bench clinching my stick watching the seconds tick off the clock. With every passing moment, with every passing save by Quick or Rask, the sweat would begin to pour from my body more and more.

Both teams were skating up and down the ice at full speed, and both coaches were making quick, thirty-five to forty second line changes.

I kept hoping for my chance and pleading with Coach Sutter to let me back on the ice to make up for my mistake.

Time kept falling off the clock and before I knew it only a minute remained in overtime. I put my head down and closed my eyes, hoping that someone on my team would play the hero.

All of a sudden, the crowd let out a groan in unison and I looked up to see Justin Williams skating his way towards the bench after taking the puck to his face on Bergeron's slap shot.

"Karson, go. Get out on the ice and make up for your miscue by winning the game."

I nodded my head in response and jumped over the boards.

As soon as I hit the ice, my legs began going at full speed. The sounds of the skates hitting the ice and the players calling out what do, began to fade as I focused solely on the puck.

The Bruins skated into our zone and Brownie was tied up with Bergeron in front of the net. I watched as Dougie and Chara passed the puck back and forth looking for an opening.

Instead of going for the puck I skated towards the boards and checked Chara as he passed the puck back to Dougie. I skated right into the slot and made it look I was falling back to protect the net.

Dougie dropped his shoulder to fake a shot and began to pass the puck back to Chara.

I took two long strides and stuck my stick out and intercepted the pass. The crowd rose to their feet as I reached center ice on a breakaway. I could hear them counting down the time remaining as I worked my way into the slot.

Deke right. Bring stick back. Puck between legs. Toe drag. Aim top shelf. Wrist it home. Jump into glass. Celly.

The crowd erupted as my teammates tackled me into the ice.

Quick tapped his stick on the ice and as I made my way to the bench I passed Dougie and brushed shoulders, "Hey Dougie, thanks for that."

..............

Tonight's first star of the game, breaking the record for fastest goal ever scored in the NHL, and tying the rookie record, for most points in his first game with three, Karson Blake!

I skated my way back onto the ice and applauded the sold out Staples Center crowd, gave our mascot Bailey a high five, and made my way over to the interviewer.

"Karson, what an opening game for you and a crazy way to begin your NHL career. How does it feel to be in this moment, playing for the Los Angeles Kings."

"It's great, it's everything I could've ever hoped for. I'm so proud to be a part of this organization, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. So here's to many more wins, and hopefully some more first star awards."

The crowd erupted into cheers and I began to make my way towards the tunnel and I saw this little guy banging on the glass and wearing my jersey. I took off my jersey and grabbed the game winning puck and wrapped it up in my jersey.

"Here you go, kid."

I tossed him my jersey and game winning puck and a huge smile spread across his face.

I made my way into the tunnel and began walking towards the locker room.

This was going to be a good season.
