Chapter 10- Elena

I got out of the shower and quickly dressed before packing up some of my equipment. I looked around the locker room and took a deep breath. Most of the team had already made their way out and Brownie had said he'd cover for me with coach if I wanted to go out and celebrate a little.

I couldn't believe it. I had done it. It seems like with all the obstacles I had faced in life and just plain chance that I'd never make it into the NHL and here I was standing in my favorite team's locker room, after having a great opening night performance.

I glanced up at the TV and noticed that they were showing highlights from our game with the title, "Karson Blake... Next NHL Superstar?" I let out a laugh and began to walk away.

"In other news, out of the Colorado Avalanche organization, Mallory Hamilton, made history tonight by becoming the first female player to ever step onto the ice and play in a NHL game. Helping lead her team to an opening night victory"

I began watching the highlights from her game. She was pretty good. A few mistakes here and there but she looked great out there and she seemed to already have great chemistry with her teammates and she managed to throw in a couple points, a goal and an assist. The Avs definitely looked like they could be a team to beat this year and I honestly couldn't wait for our first matchup against them and their stacked lineup.

I felt a hand press against my lower back, "So, is that the type of girls that you're into, Mr. Superstar?"

I turned around and a sly smile crossed my lips. "Nah, way to masculine for me. I prefer the finer, more elegant girls", I said with a wink.

"So Ms. Ice Girl. Do I get a name or are you just going to lead me on for the rest of time?"

She let out a giggle, "Elena. Elena Rose Sexton. And I have to say, Mr. Blake. You definitely impressed me tonight. I may even let you take me out to dinner sometime."

I instantly felt my cheeks turning red. "I'd like that, Elena. I really would."

She let out a smile and began to walk away before turning around and looking back at me. "Look Hun, I know my ass is fine, but that doesn't mean you can just stand back and stare at it. Besides. I need you to show me the way to your car. After all, you are taking me home tonight."

After driving for a few minutes Elena directed me to pull into a public park.

We carried on small talk for a few minutes before Elena pulled out a puck from her pocket, "So, big fan of the kids I see?"

I grinned as I saw her pull out the puck I had tossed to my young fan and place it on the center console.

"And I see you're a fan of bullying little ones and taking what doesn't belong to you."

Elena chuckled, "Quite the opposite actually. The kid you tossed the puck to is my little brother, and I may have told him that you and I are amazing friends and I could get it signed for him. You should've seen the look on his face."

I smiled. "Well, maybe you should tell me about this little brother of yours."

Elena let out a sigh, "Sit back Hun, this is probably going to take a little bit of time."

For the next many minutes, Elena or Ellie as she liked to be called told me the heart wrenching story how two weeks after her eighteenth birthday her parents passed away in a car accident. How after the passing she had watched out after her younger brother Gabriel and became an ice girl to make money to help pay for her schooling and take care of her little brothers needs.

"I swear Karson, Gabriel may just be a little kid, buy you're like a god to him. He knows all of your stats and pretty much everything about you.... When you tossed him that puck to him, I haven't seen him smile like that since our parents passed away... So please, will you sign it for him. Do something?"

I started giggling, "Yea, of course Ellie. It'd be my pleasure.... I could even give him my stick if you think he'd like that."

Ellie bit her lip and whispered into my ear, "I think your stick belongs to me tonight, superstar."

Ellie hopped out of the car and motioned for me to follow her until we came to a small apartment, "So, you coming in or what?"
