chapter 1-

I had just finished my final shift at work before the christmas break, it was a cold night, blankets of snow coated the streetlights and people were walking around with their layered clothing and various colours of hand gloves. I lived just outside the city, i usually walked for thirty minutes but since it was a pretty cold night I had decided to catch the late train home instead.

Christmas was in four days, it was a busy Thursday as many people rushed to buy last minute stocking fillers for their kids or loved ones. I however, would be spending this one alone, yet again. As I walk to the station I think of how things could have been different this year, I could have been with somebody this holiday season, but instead I broke off the engagement, I didn't love him, it wasn't fair to lead him on, I've never loved anything, never mind anyone. I was just in time for the train, I jumped on and grabbed myself a window seat, I notice the snow gathering on the corners of the glass and it somehow makes me smile, I place my bag on the seat next to me and take out a book I'd been reading entitled 'A Christmas Carol'. It was a classic, and I just happened to relate to Ebenezer Scrooge on a spiritual level.

The train was almost empty, I heard the automated doors begin to close as I began reading my novel, then, I heard a loud slamming noise coming from the doorway, I look up and see a strong hand clasped around the door frame and a tall, quite handsome man follow suit. He was dressed pretty casual, plain blue jeans, some brown boots and a long sand coloured coat with a fur hood and paired it with a black cap. He made his way inside and down the aisle of the train, his eyes met with mine and he smiled, I however was not particularly in the mood and scoffed, looking back down at my book and continuing to read. He then decided to sit right opposite me, just across the table. I pretended to read my book whilst taking sparing glances at him from time to time, just to feed my curiosity.

After a few minutes he notices what I was doing and cleared his throat, "so you getting a good look at me?" he smirks at me, I decided to opt for a more snarky response, "meh, not really much to look at" I sarcastically grin at him and look back down at my book. "Oh, really? I thought I was a little more handsome than 'not much to look at'" I just roll my eyes and say "don't take it personal Romeo, I've just had enough today, not really in the mood to be all happy and festive, sorry if I'm not in the mood to have a conversation with a complete stranger" you sigh and he replies "right, I guess you're headed home to a boyfriend or something like that. It's nice to have someone this time of year" I hear the train come to a halt and realise it's my stop, I grab my bag and stand up as I look down on him before I leave "there is no boyfriend if you must know. I'm just heading home for a long relaxing weekend all to myself, you have a nice night."

I practically run off the train so that he can't get the last word in and I begin to make my way home in the frosty snow, I then hear the sound of boots scrunching in the snow behind me "Wait!" I know exactly who it is, I turn around to face him "No one deserves to spend Christmas alone. Let's go for a walk."
