the day Mariella lost her veganism.

in her words, it was all Jugheads fault.

January 6th
two months before meeting Jughead in person.

jugheadjones messaged you!

how long have you been a vegan?

My whole life.
my parents wanted to raise me to have a healthy, clean body.
i've hardly ever gotten sick and i've never had dairy. or anything.
why?

I was just thinking
it's heckin sad you've never had a milkshake.
i see you as a vanilla milkshake kinda gal.

vanilla seems bland, i'm probably more of like a chocolate.
and to be honest,
i'm 17 years old. I should have the right to try one by now.

wowowowow
don't take that as me like
persuading you to.
i don't want you to
break ur lifestyle if it's really
something you take pride in.

i didn't take it that way.
i genuinely want to try one.

oh
oh wow
um
okay then
uh
how do you wanna do this?

go to the store and buy one? Ill FaceTime you?

deal.

"Ello'?"

"Jug! Hey," Mariella smiles brightly at her phone screen, the bright light from the window behind her amplifying her almost perfect smile even more. Jughead noticed.

"Hey. Where are you?" Jughead questioned. He saw the succulents hanging in the background, and the wood panel walls. It all looked tumblr-esque.

"A little cafe called Bungaloos. They serve some pretty rad milkshakes apparently." Mariella said matter-of-deftly, shrugging her shoulders. Jughead nodded.

"Maybe in your area. Pops has the best in the world, hands down."

"I don't doubt that," Mariella said half heartedly, pulling her tall glass in front of the camera. She swirled around the pink drink around, staring at it.

"I got chocolate to prove that I'm probably right," came her next blunt statement, taking the cherry on top of the shake and popping it into her mouth,"plus, they said the vanilla here sucks, so."

"So much for rad milkshakes." Jughead said, shrugging. Mariella rolled her eyes, before awkwardly sitting there in silence. It stayed that way for thirty seconds, she counted, before Jughead pipped up.

"Well. Am I going to witness the loss of your milkshake virginity or are you just gonna stare at it until it molds?" He questioned the purple haired girl. She sighed.

"Fine," She said, picking up the straw once more and moving it to her lips, "here goes nothing."

The first sip changed we life, she declared to herself. The flavor of artificial chalky taste was worrisome at first, sure, but it tasted amazing nonetheless.

She almost regretted the veganism.

"Well?" Jughead asked. Mariella looked up, almost forgetting about his presence. She subtly shrugged.

"It's alright." Lie. It was mind blowing.

But she wouldn't let Jughead be right.

The two sat and chatted for hours, two more milkshakes were drank, and Mariella discovered that strawberry was her least favorite flavor. Jughead said she's lying so she would be right. He may be right about that.

Though, on that very sunny day in small town Oklahoma, Mariella changed her lifestyle from vegan to milkshake addict, and was never the same.

And of course, it was all Jugheads fault.
