Chapter 30: Dune Airaldi

"Do you need me to go over the plan one last time?" I asked Ellie, strapping a spare knife to my belt. She sighed heavily and rolled her eyes.

It had been a week since Blake's death and it was becoming apparent to me that Henric Beathaven needed to be dealt with, and I thought it would be a good idea if Ellie got some experience in my line of work before we decided to take him down. She'd be more prepared both emotionally and physically, to go in for the kill if necessary.

Tonight's assignment consisted of a heavily tattooed drug dealer who had a habit of reigning in teenage boys to do his dirty work. The similarities to the case Felix had been involved in allowed Ellie to feel the anger that burned deep within me at the type of people I assassinated, meaning that she was less likely to change her mind at the last minute and try to stop me from murdering my target.

"I walk into the bar, pinpoint my target and lure him out back - it doesn't get much simpler than that," Ellie replied sassily, watching her reflection in the bedroom mirror as she applied an extra layer of red lipstick. "So no, I think I'm good," she said with finality, turning to face me.

I grinned at her attitude and made a slow assessment of her outfit. She was wearing a tight red dress that stopped just above her knees, with short sleeves that clung to her toned upper arms. The dress was classy and sexy all at once and I knew that no man in his right man would turn her down if she asked for a dance.

Her dark red lips spelled trouble and the heels she wore made her eyes level with my mouth, which she watched carefully as it turned up into a sly smirk. Her cheeks flushed pink when she saw the way I was looking at her and we were undoubtedly sharing the same thought.

I broke eye contact with her for a brief moment to brandish a knife from my back pocket and hand it to her, all playfulness leaving my features as seriousness took over.

"Promise me you'll stay safe," I murmured, looking down at her.

She nodded and reached up to wrap her arms around my neck, her fingers playing with the hair at the nape of my neck.

"You'll be close enough by that if anything goes wrong you'll be there to help me out," she said softly, reassuring me.

I nodded, my brow furrowed.

"I don't like the idea of you being in danger," I grumbled, gripping her waist so tight that she let out a little squeak. "To be honest, it scares the crap out of me," I admitted.

She laughed softly and she tipped her head back, revealing her neck to me.

"You - scared? The great and powerful Dune . . ." she hesitated when she realised she had yet to learn my last name.

"Airaldi," I filled in for her softly, leaning close to nuzzle her neck.

"Dune Airaldi," she repeated, testing out the weight of my name on her tongue. "I like it."

I grinned into her neck, grazing her throat with my teeth and pressing her closer.

"Maybe one day I'll be Mrs Airaldi," she murmured, almost as an afterthought.

I froze in her arms and pulled away, stepping out of the bedroom.

"We need to get going."

I pulled up outside the club after an hour long drive into the city and placed one hand on Ellie's thigh, stopping her from immediately climbing out the car.

"I'm going to find a place to park the car and then I'll be straight in after you. There's no need to rush; get comfortable in your surroundings before seeking out the target, he's not going anywhere anytime soon," I said.
