Chapter 2: Jumping To Conclusions (short)

Radar wandered around Beacontown surveying all that was occurring throughout the town. Ever since Jesse left him in charge and went with Petra, he did this on a daily basis. Just making sure everything was running smoothly.

"Open the gates!" He heard someone yell through the still silence of the morning. The gate watchman made eye contact with him and raised an eyebrow. Radar waved an arm at him, indicating for him to obey the voice's request. The watchman nodded and pulled a lever to his left. The doors slowly pulled apart and a dirty, scared Petra burst through them.

"Petra!" He ran to her. "Are you okay? Where's Jesse?"

"I'm fine." She brushed herself off. "He's... gone, Ray. I don't know, I-.. I can't find him. I think he's..."

"D-Dead?" He put his hand on her shoulder and looked into her eyes, begging for an answer. Petra slowly nodded, her head hanging as she tried to catch her breath.

"I heard him scream, Radar... that stupid, girly scream.. I couldn't find him.." She cried a little. Radar stood up straight and wrapped his arms around her.

"We need to tell the town." He whispered in her ear.

"Yeah..." She sniffled.

"People of Beacontown..." Radar looked out at his people's confused faces from the stage built especially for speeches like this... This was going to be harder than he thought. "As you all know, our leader Jesse left a month ago on an adventure with his good friend Petra. Well... unfortunately.."

Radar took a deep breath in.

"He was unable to return..."

A few people in the audience gasped and began asking questions.

"What do you mean... unable to return?" Lukas pushed through the crowd.

"Lukas!..." Petra's eyes lit up when she saw him.

"Petra!" He ran onstage and hugged her. "Are you alright?"

She smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I'm okay." (A little Luktra there for y'all. This is still a Jesskas book but I ship Luktra too)

"What happened. Where? Is? Jesse?" Lukas' face got serious.

"I don't know. He just vanished. He left to get food, an-and.. I heard him scream. He never came back." Petra tucked her hair behind her ear and looked at the ground, the sound of Jesse's cry still echoing in her mind.

"And so? You're just giving up on him?" He looked at Radar.

"We believe he's..." Radar glanced out at the townspeople. "...dead..."

"No... no, he's not!" Lukas yelled. "He's alive! And I'm going to find him!"

"Lukas!" Petra grabbed him before he could run off the stage.

"Pet, please..." He looked into her eyes. "I have to do this."

He put his hand on top of hers.

"I'm coming with you." They nodded at each other before hopping off the stage.

"Guys, he's gone!" Radar yelled and a few people in the crowd nodded.

"No." Lukas took a step towards them. "We don't know that. If and when we find him, you'll see. We can't just give up on him! You'll see..."
