Drawing ever closer, the paik lumbered towards me, it's empty eye sockets burrowing into my soul. I wanted to move; I needed to move and get my feet stayed rooted in place.
We're supposed to stay well away from these things (my situation was a perfect example of why). Warnings are put up saying to run at the very first glimpse of an outline out here in the desolate deserts of Hoth. And yet, here I was: out here all alone and about to face one of the worst deaths, and all because of some stupid job - which didn't even pay half as much as this journey was worth.
Supposedly, there was some guy going by the name of 'Grand Ostrander' who had, in the past, orchestrated a huge rebellion against this planet's cruel and merciless dictator, Lord Carvalho. The old folk tales say he almost pulled it off, until something occurred that rid the planet of all the rebels; it was something so awful no one dare speak of it. However, this 'Grand Ostrander' was supposed to have survived the even and be hiding out in some kind of safe house out here, in the same place I was about to die.
This was the point I gave up. Why struggle against this creature if I had no chance of surviving? Surely it was much more dignified to give myself up (not that it would matter, there was going to be no witnesses to my gory death)?
Just as the Paik lunged toward me, I stepped back one last step - just natural instinct, I guess. But this was when I began to hear some kind of odd noise rising from beneath where my right foot had hit the dusty ground. As it grew, so did the strange wriggling in the sand where I stood.
A rather disappointing, small mouse popped it's head up from the heaps of heavy sand, muttering foul insults and curses as it proceeded to do so. A glowing, crimson dot replaced the gap where this thing's left eye should be and long, sharp-looking claws spiked from it's tiny mouse paws.
Spinning around to survey it's new surroundings, the creature noticed the Paik ominously looming over and casting a dark shadow on where this tiny creature sat. I didn't see how this was going to help my situation at all, so I attempted to ignore the helpless being that lay at my feet. That was, until it launched its self at the bloodied face of the Paik.
I hope y'all enjoyed this chapter, hopefully I'll be able to make some longer ones soon 💕
