"Daddy?" I asked and jumped on the couch, next to my father.
"Yes, princess?" He looked down at me, smiling.
"I want to become a warrior, just like you!"
My father laughed. He didn't laugh at me, no. He had always been supportive of me and my dreams. "And you will", he said, "You will become a warrior, just like me".
I looked at his face, his kind features and warm smile and grinned. He stroked my cheek and I fell into a deep sleep. I dreamed of myself in a shining armor, fighting the evil. That's how I imagined all the stories my dad had told me. That's how I imagined my dad. My future self also. Men fighting for their country, for their families and their beliefs. I would be the first to change that. The first girl in the army. And all the little ones would look up to me and want to become a warrior, too. Fighting the bad, securing the country, the people and everything so dear to them.
"Commander Morcos!", a voice shouted. "There's only one left but I can't fight him alone. I need you, Commander!"
I ran up to the man calling my name, my sword firmly in hand. It shone in the afterglow and reflected the sand under my feet. Everything seemed calm and peaceful. That was with one blow, the battle was over.
"Thank you", the man whispered. "Thank you for saving my life, Morcos".
I nodded. "Thank you for your service, Haddad. I appreciate it." Then I turned to the setting sun and made my way home. The way was not too long as we were the troops securing the boarder of our beautiful city of Alkazaar. My home was not too far away from the wall. It was small but served my purpose perfectly. I kept it pretty simple as I didn't spend too much of my time in here and never really had friends over. Friends were no option in my job. There was too much to lose.
Walking over the warm sand I thought of the day. We had just defeated a bunch of criminals trying to cross the boarder to do their business in our capital. Who knows what they had planned. It didn't matter anyways as they were all dead now. It may seem cold of me to say so, but I felt good. I did my job and prevented criminal activities from happening in my beloved city. The city that allowed me to live a life as good as mine.
It was all thanks to our king. He was around my age but ten times wiser. I liked him because my brother was his advisor. They made a good team and I was proud to be a citizen of Alhuriya, the country we all worked so hard for.
As I crossed the boarder a group of soldiers saluted me. I was proud I didn't even have to identify myself anymore. They knew who I was. I made my dream come true.
My name was Audrey Morcos and I was a warrior. I was respected and I was proud of whom I had become. Not only I was proud. My mom and brother also. But most importantly, my dad. My role model.
"Audrey" I heard a familiar voice call out my name. It was none of the soldiers I had just passed. I looked around to find the person calling for me.
"Audrey, darling! Wake up!" No, I thought. This is not a dream. It can't be! I looked around, convulsively looking for the owner of the voice. Then I woke up.
I sighed. Not again. Why couldn't it become reality? I looked up to see my dad trying to wake me up. Stretching myself, I cried out. "Dad! How could you! I just defeated the criminals!"
My father laughed again. It was a loving laugh. "I'm proud of you, princess", he said and kissed me on my forehead. I giggled. "I am no princess, Daddy. I am a warrior"
He sighed. "You're one of a kind"
"I know!" I said, beaming. "I am just like you, Daddy!"
"Sadly" My mom said, standing in the door frame. She had a spoon in her hand with which she pointed at me. "I wanted to have a daughter so badly. But what do I get? A tomboy. You don't like to cook, you don't like to sew, nothing!" She sighed in defeat.
"It's all your fault!", she shouted at my dad, the spoon now pointing at him. Then she giggled and my dad stood up.
"I know, darling" He said. "But I'm not sorry for having this unique of a daughter"
He walked up to her and held her by the waist. Then he kissed her on the forehead.
Commander Charles Morcos. A true softie at heart.
