Tris
It was the afternoon when they could draw out as many walkers as they could. Taking a break, everyone began to snack on the small pack of food they brought. Couldn't go killing zombies on an empty stomach.
"Oh, there comes another." Christian pointed as another walker strolled out, on its way to them. He stood from sitting on the grass, the walker exiting the front entrance of the wide white painted building. The double doors were hard glass, tinted black. "I've been practicing." He took out his small knife and positioned to aim and throw. Tris watched as her brother set the knife free, aimed at the walker several feet away. The hint of the knife slammed into the walkers chest and everyone began to laugh. "Well, at least I hit it." Christian pulled out his bigger knife, walking a few feet and stabbed it into the walkers head.
It dropped a few feet from Madison biting into her apple. "Damn it." She hissed and stood, disgusted from the smell. "My meal is ruined."
"Not mines," Tris said, scooting closer to the walker as if wanting to be close to an old buddy. She looked down at it, wondering if there was the slightest chance, this once upon a time ago woman could have been here with them. How did she feel, facing the dead? Did she have any chance. This could have been Tris if not for her genes, preventing her from turning. "Let's wrap this up."
Finishing up, ripping another piece of beef jerky, Tris stared off, lost in her thoughts. It was hard being in this world. Some part of Tris wish she would have known this world was coming to shits. She would have prepared better, saving up to buy the perfect gear and equipment to protect herself and family. Probably rented out land and made a underground bunker, to have food and water stored. Stay far from this dark world. Tris was sure, there were a lot of people out there who did just that.
"Hey, you okay?" Madison whispered. She slid next to Tris, pressing her hand gently over her arm.
Their eyes locked. Tris smiled weakly. "Just thinking about the what if's."
"Don't torture yourself that way." Madison kissed her cheek, pressing her lips close to Tris ear as she whispered. "You are here. And I don't see you as half dead. You love and you feel. Don't beat yourself up for being different."
Tris moved in fast, pressing her lips into Madison's for a lasting kiss.
Someone cleared their throat. "You two ready?"
Narrowing her eyes, Tris broke her kiss and looked to Patrick and then nodded. All day, the weather had been gloomy, but for the first time, rain fell. "That's a sure sign."
Every stood, ready to face the rest of the zombies. There was a new danger inside of that building. Walkers trapped in rooms and runners ready to launch themselves.
Tris sighed. "Christian. Madison. I need you both to stay out here."
"What? No," Christian said before Madison could argue too. "I'm not going to let you risk yourself with me beside you."
"More walkers will come out. I need them taken care of," Tris argued.
"I don't care," Madison retorted. "We stay together."
Tris ran her fingers through her hair. There was something dangerous about going into closed in walls where anything dead could pop out at any moment. If they were bitten, Tris would lose it. Especially her little brother. Something didn't feel right to her, letting him inside. "You trust my instincts?"
Staring at her with dark eyes, Madison nodded. "You know we do."
"Then I'm telling you both, I don't think I will be able to focus with you both inside. Its too dangerous."
