Chapter 6

I slammed the door shut and collapsed on my bed and began to ponder what happened out on the field. I reconciled with my longtime best friend, met Valerie's friends, had a run in with her jerk of a captain, and saw the curly haired god again who causes my heart to palpitate.

I sat up and leaned against the wall bringing my knees to my chest. All of these simple everyday run-ins might be customary for someone else but for me they were out of my normalcy. I can't picture myself going to a pub with people I just met and someone I haven't seen in seven years. I mean I like Valerie she's fun to hang out with but we just met yesterday. How can someone be so sure of a friendship that came out of nowhere; you can't.

There's this nagging feeling that everyone has this ulterior motive and I can't shake it off. I grew up with no one but my family; I mean my best friend was my thirteen year old sister. So why now do all these people come into my life and act like they genuinely care.

"Because they do," my conscience prods.

I reached for my phone and started calling my father; his voice brings me comfort that no one else can.

He picked up on the third ring, "Bethany how's college life treating you? I've been missing my little girl," he said happily but I could tell he was trying to bury his sadness.

"It's going ok, I've met a couple of interesting people," I paused and remembered Liam, "Guess who I also ran into."

"Who?"

"Liam."

"Liam as in Liam Payne?" He pauses for a second, "I haven't seen that kid in such a longtime. What has he been up to?"

"He's on the football team. That's all I know about him; he said he wanted to catch up over coffee soon so I guess I'll learn more about him then, but I don't know how to feel."

"What do you mean Bethany, shouldn't it feel great to have him back in your life," he sounded concerned and I don't blame him since I have no clue what is going on inside my mind.

"Seriously! Father, he walks out of my life with no call or text and now he is here and wants things to go back to normal. I don't know if I can when he left at a time when I needed him the most," I ranted.

"I know sweetheart but that was the past and now it's the present so please live in the moment. I need you to stop and take a breather when things get to hard to comprehend, okay?" I can tell he is trying to calm me down before I have an anxiety attack from my haywire emotions.

"Okay, I..." A knock at the door interrupted me; it's probably Valerie forgetting her key, "I got to go father, Valerie's at the door."

"Okay, please call me again soon. The house feels empty with just Alexandria and I," he pleaded.

"I will don't worry, I love you," I said as I got up walking toward the door.

"I love you too," he sighed, "Talk to you later alligator."

I chuckled, "Bye father," I smiled as I opened the door but it faltered when it wasn't Valerie but Liam leaning against the frame with a million dollar smile.

"Bye Bethany," my father ended the call and I snapped my flip phone closed.

I stared at him not sure what to say or how to act. He cleared his throat, "Can I come in?"

"Uh yeah," I stepped away from the opening and motioned for him to come in before I closed the door, "How did you find my room?"

"Well you are Valerie's roommate right? It's not like I haven't been in here before," he chuckled and made himself at home on Val's bed.
