Chapter 11

People watching. It’s a great way to spend the Friday afternoon alone. I was currently tucked away in a comfy booth at Hillside café; somewhere on campus. I came across the place after spending the day buying the books I needed for my upcoming classes. Situated in front of a large window facing the street I nursed a cup of tea with light milk while watching most people franticly prepare for tonight’s home opener for the Boston College Eagles.

Val texted early saying she was off with the cheerleaders doing prep. She made sure to ask me a couple of times if I would be at the game and each time I would reply with a yes. I was actually looking forward to going to the game tonight. I was excited to see Valerie cheer and to see if Liam was actually any good at football, since he used to have two left feet when we were kids. She told me there was an interview involving some cheerleaders and the top football players that would air a few hours before the game on ESPN. Apparently this game was going to be broadcasted nationwide, all because of Harry.

Students in the dorm today were talking about Harry and I couldn’t help but eavesdrop. Even though I only heard bits and pieces of information I found out he was the first ever British player to make it to the college level. The nation’s eyes are going to be trained on him to see if he is as good as people say. Top NFL teams apparently are already interested in him even though he’s only a sophomore.

But I don’t really care, I was going to the game to see Valerie, Liam, Zayn, and Dalton; my newest group of friends. Val said they were all going to be in the interview so I quickly finished the last few sips of my tea, crumpled up some stray napkins, and threw everything in the trash.

When I got back to the dorm I flicked on our shared TV that was mounted above the door. I dragged over the desk chair and a blanket from my bed before flicking on the TV. I scanned through the channels trying to locate ESPN. Eventually I came across the station and found the interview was going to start in a few.

In the meantime I composed a text to my father, ‘Hi, I haven’t called you recently and I was wondering if everything is alright at the house. How are you? How’s Alexandria?’

A few minutes later he responded; much faster than usual, ‘Oh Bethany everything is well. I miss you so much; the house just feels empty without you. What have you been up to?’

‘Nothing much, just prepping for school on Monday. Then I’m going to the game later on tonight.’

‘That’s sounds great. Remember to keep those grades up and keep me posted on your scores. Have fun tonight pumpkin it looks like it will be a great game. I will be watching the game for work tonight but maybe the next time I will be able to come down and visit.’

I could hear the broadcasters introduce the interview in the background, ‘I’ll let you get back to work, and I love you!’

‘Love you too, have a great night.’

I focused my attention back on the TV and saw a circular table with the cheerleaders on one half, the football players on the other and two hosts sat in the middle at the head of the circle.

“I’m Patrick Stone and this is my co-host, Dan Roberts.  We will be broadcasting tonight’s interview from Boston College where in just a few hours these players will be hitting the field,” a middle age man with brown hair with some streaks of grey named Patrick announced.

“Let’s get started. We are joined with BC’s top players for the 2014 season. To my right we have some of the cheerleaders who are led by Libby Jones. But to my left we have Zayn Malik; he is the team’s quarterback and captain. Next we have Liam Payne the team’s center. Then there is Dalton West the wide receiver and last but not least we have the British star Harry Styles. If you don’t know who he is he is the team’s running back and is just an overall beast at the sport for being new to it,” the other host with balding hair known as Dan said.
