Autumn's mother stopped washing the dishes and spun around, anger radiating on her face. "Real school? You're joking Autumn." she scowled, "We gave you an education, what more could you want? After this year you're free!" she growled. "Mom, I'm not living my life to the fullest. I'm trapped in this house forvever and that's not what I should be doing. I'm seventeen for fucking sake! I can my make my own choices!" Autumn screeched back. "You'll die! This is for the best-" Autumn cut her off, "No it isn't! I'd rather live my life and die young rather then live a long miserable life!"

"Your life is wonderful! Clean water, food, a roof over your head. What more could you want?" she said. "I want a life mom! I'm not an animal who just needs the basic needs of a living creature! I strive for freedom!" Autumn snapped back. "Autumn, you'll never fit in. You're blind, they'll hurt-" Autumn got up and grabbed her cane, "I can defend myself! I'm not completely helpless!" she yelled. "Do you know what I went through to give birth to you? I gave up everything for you and you want to run away?"

"I don't want to run away! I want to live a normal fucking life!" Autumn yelled. Veronica scowled at her, "I only want what's best for you." she mumbled slowly, as if that would change her mind. Autumn didn't respond, she stormed out the kitchen and shut the door. She went upstairs into her room, she dropped the cane and flopped on her bed, tears welling down her face. Her mom would never see her as anything but a helpless, blind girl would she? She had power, she had dreams, she couldn't stand this any longer.

Autumn blinked her milky eyes, her throat was dry and she felt tired, she closed her eyes and let everything fade away. She wanted a break from everything, a break from reality.

One day went by, and two days went by, three days went by. She soon semmed like a walking corpse.

When Autumn woke up on the fourth day there was alot of voices downstairs, she was confused at first and shakingly grabbed her cane. When she reached the bottom of the stairs she felt a warm mass, presumably a light coming from he living room. Autumn stepped into the doorway to hear her parents voice, and her aunt and uncle along with her grandoarents. "Autumn we discussed your 'speech' with the family." her father said, she froze and remained silent. "Autumn, I understand. As a kid I longed for freedom, I'd always drink and smoke and sneak out, you know, cliche teenager things."

Autumn was still silent, her legs began shaking for a moment. "Autumn, your father has a proposition for you." her aunt said, stepping closer towards her. "Yes?" Autumn squeaked out, there was a silence as Chris took Veronica's hand and looked at her. "The government has been urging us to take you to a real school for a while. They claim in this generation many blind kids can go to school and you could go. We've always tried to find our way out of it but a few senators are starting to grow angry about it. They say we're going to be arrested for 'child neglect' if we don't send you away." Chris paused for a moment, "There's a private school two cities away, it has a special education program for the mentally and physically disabled. There's also a standard education, for the normal kids." Autumn hated the word 'normal', it was used against her since her parents didn't see her as ordinary person.

"Autumn, you're becoming a grown woman, and we understand you want to leave us." Chris said, sympathy glowing in his eyes. "We need to show you how cruel humans are, they won't accept you Autumn." those words stung, worse then any breaks or fractures. "We'll let you stay at that school for senior year. Only because we want to show you how cruel kids your age are, and how dangerous it is out there. We'll show you that it's not safe out there, for a kid like you." Autumn hated her fathers mindset, on how 'society is unaccepting of differences.' "Remember Autumn you don't have to go. It's a choice to be stuck in society's brainwashed system." Autumn rolled her eyes at her father overdramatic behaviour and heaved a breath.

"I'll go." Autumn mumbled.
