Gryffin's POV
Fire and people were the only things I dreamt about lately and every time I would wake up with cold sweats hugging my body and my heart beating fast. I looked around my room and it was still dark, I looked over at my clock and saw that it was still 2 a.m. I groaned and shuffled around my bet for a bit before drifting back to sleep.
The sunlight crept between the blinds of my window, waking me up. I stayed on my bed for a bit before sitting up on my bed. I took a pair of fresh clothes (sweater and yoga pants) along with a new set of underwear before heading towards the bathroom.
I walked in and stared at the mirror, observing my features, a small petite girl with blue striking eyes, plump lips and brown hair tied up in a messy bun. A birthmark shaped like a crescent showing at the base of my neck.
I then took a quick shower before changing into the clothes that I brought in and went downstairs. I then headed to the kitchen
"Hey Nana, hows breakfast going?" I asked.
Nana isn't my actual grandma, she's the head of this orphanage. I've lived at this orphanage since I could remember and Nana, almost reaching her sixties, made it a habit for me to call her Nana, she also made the other kids in the orphanage to call her that too.
She then looked at me saltily, "We're done with the cooking, you woke up late" she replied. Sometimes she acts like a 16-year-old teen, it made me chuckle at her reply and grin sheepishly. "Gather the kids" she instructed. I nodded in response before dashing out of the kitchen.
I woke up those who were still sleeping and called in those who were playing in the backyard. Soon the dining hall was filled with kids. I counted everyone making sure that everyone was present. I counted 52 kids including, someone was missing. I observed the kids, trying to figure out who was missing. Then it struck me, Katniss was missing. I rushed to Evelyn, her best friend.
"Ev, have you seen Kat anywhere?" I asked. She only shook her head sideways in response. That was all that was needed for me to panic. I searched high and low for Katniss but couldn't find a trace of her. Behind the orphanage was a forest that all the kids were taught to stay away from. My gut has a feeling that Katniss may be in there somewhere, well its better to be safe than sorry.
I sprinted into the forest and heard Katniss screaming. I run faster if it was possible, adrenaline pumping in my blood as I saw Katniss with a man trying to drag her away. With the strength, I didn't know I had, I pushed the man away from Katniss, sending him slamming against a tree.
I then rushed to Katniss and soothed her "Katniss I need you to run back to the orphanage, do you hear me?" I ordered. She nodded and started running away before the man had a chance to regain his stance.
"Well look who do we have here" he stated while fixing his suit, odd, for someone in a forest a suit is not what you would've worn "looks like we got a little hero trying to save her little friend, I hope you are willing to take her place." he continued.
He then lunged towards me and then the adrenaline hit again and I got confident that I could take the man head-on. I then held my stance as the man crashed unto me, I was shocked with the amount of strength I had and was a little dazed, the man took the opportunity before cornering me against a tree.
He then stroked my hair and went down to my cheek and jawline. "With your beauty, we could make more bucks than your little friend" He stated. I was confused, are they trying to sell me? isn't it illegal? Questions rushed within my head and I didn't notice that he stopped stroking me. His eyes filled with a mix of emotions that I couldn't decipher as he saw my birthmark.
