I looked in my the mirror and got ready for Chic and Jughead's graduation. I learned Jughead is valedictorian for the ceremony and Chic is offered a scholarship to Stanford for soccer. I'm so proud of both of them. Jughead moved back into our house.
"You look great." Jughead said leaning in the door way. I turned to him and he came into the room. He put his hands on my waist and I put my arms around his neck.
"You're gonna do great. But why won't you let me read the speech?" I asked.
"You just have to wait, Betts! It's really nice." He smiled.
"Ew! Get a room you two!" Chic laughed coming into the room. Jughead and I let go of each other.
"We're leaving early to prepare, Jug." Chic nodded. Jughead and I kissed.
"I'll see you soon." Jughead smiled. We said goodbye. I continued to get ready for about 10 minutes and then my mom came into my room.
"Jughead and Chic are friends now."
"Yeah, they've always been friends. It's just Jughead and I-Well-I got in the way-" I started. My mom came closer to me and took my hands.
"No Elizabeth...you followed your heart. You got your happy ending and you're so happy with this weird-goofball you call Jughead Jones. I wasted my time as a teenager with your stupid father. Jeez Hal did me so wrong." She sighed.
"Dad was a terrible person. He was cruel and mean and didn't deserve piece of happiness he got. But we're here mom, the 4 people that love you the most." I smiled.
"4?"
"Polly, she's flying in btw. She'll be at the graduation. Chic, who's the most loyal friend, son, and brother ever. Me, I don't think there is a better mother on Earth than you. Jughead, he doesn't see you as 'my best friends mom' or 'my girlfriends mom'. He see's you as the mother he never had. You've let him into our home and gave him a place to live. We all love you mom."
She smiled and we went to the car and got to the high school. We sat in the middle section of where the chairs were. Polly arrived 10 minutes after we did.
"Did I miss anything?" She asked taking her coat off and sitting down.
"Nope, the ceremony will start soon. Also, in 2 weeks...it'll be Jughead and I's 10-month anniversary. Today is June 4, 2019." I smiled. Polly smiled and we waited for the ceremony to start. About 15 minutes later, the ceremony was beginning. Jughead walked on stage and I cheered very loud.
"Welcome, parents and fellow graduates. We press pause on this moment as we begin our new chapter of our lives. I remember being so young and thinking that this day wouldn't ever come, but now we're here. My fellow graduates, you guys can do anything you set your minds to. The parents in the crowd, you guys did a great job with these kids. My mom died when I was young and my dad is too much of a bum to even care about me. He didn't come; that's ok with me. My best friend and my girlfriend and their family came today. I can't make this too long, but this goes out to Betty. Betty, will you please come on to the stage?" Jughead said. I was a little confused. I awkwardly walked in front of him on stage and he took my hands and we stood next to the microphone.
"You are the one person that encourages me to do better and to be better! You're one of the only people that I love. You're my #1 girl, Betts. We've been together for 9 months almost 10 months, and we're so young. But it's more like a promise." He nodded. He let go of my hands and got onto one knee. He took out a box and showed me a ring on the inside.
The Ring
"Elizabeth Marie Cooper...will you marry me?" He said obviously a little nervous. I looked at my family and they were smiling.
"Is this even legal?" I whispered laughing. He chuckled too.
"Ages 16 and 17 need a parents blessing." He smiled.
"Yes, Jughead. My answer is yes!" I exclaimed. Everyone in the crowd cheered and Jughead placed the ring on my finger. I got off the stage and waited 45 minutes for the ceremony to be over. Then Jughead and I went to Pops; by ourselves. We sat in a booth.
"How did you afford the ring?" I asked.
"I worked a lot when you and I weren't talking and then I had saved money from last summer. The ring was really expensive so I hope you like it." He smiled.
"I don't want to be married until I'm out of high school. I'm also going to college for journalism. So no kids until 22 or older." I said.
"Ok." He smiled.
"Mind if we join you?" Chic asked standing by Veronica. We shook our heads and they sat down. We talked about the engagement a lot. Then Kevin came in with Moose and they sat in the booth next to ours. I then started to show off Jughead and I relationship.
"So Jughead, are you going to college?" Moose asked.
"No, I'm going to work with Ms.Cooper at the Newspaper and I'm going to work to earn lots of money." Jughead nodded.
"So this is it, huh?" Veronica asked.
"Yeah, it is. Team Bughead is an average couple now." I smiled. We all had many milkshakes that night and many laughs to share.
