We left that obstacle behind and I found myself renewed by confronting a long held fear and finding it… groundless. I had done the obstacle without hesitating and just refused to even worry about a phobia that made me flinch while watching movies where there were small tunnels. It was rather freeing to just blow right through it. Obstacle #9 Hanging Tough: Swing Tarzan-style across a series of hanging rings suspended over a pool of ice-cold water. Rings are placed 4 to 6 feet apart. This obstacle was an almost playful romp compared to the ones we had already faced down. I held on to the first one, swung out to grab the second on and my overconfidence led me to release the ring before I really had a grip on the next one. Needless to say I went for a dip!
