Step 3 : The Writing part

Aha! The exciting - and the most tough - process....Finally!

But...of course, it needs hard work and patience.

You need to follow some steps, but that isn't exactly necessary. Most of the lyrics have a pattern which is used by almost every songwriter. Well, there are some song-lyrics which do not follow this pattern, but, they are only a few.

Anyway, the pattern is like this :

-Verse 1

-Pre Chorus

-Chorus

-Verse 2

-Pre Chorus

-Chorus

-Bridge

-Chorus

(I don't think the terms are correct, but anyway, read on)

Though this pattern is not exactly a must, most lyrics are written in this form, as I already mentioned earlier. The chorus is the main portion of the lyrics (A must!!!). It can either be a full stanza or just a line whereas the pre chorus and the bridge are optional.

If you decide to write a bridge, it may be the pre chorus, one of the verses, just a line or an entirely different stanza.

An example of the pattern :

WRECKING BALL by Miley Cyrus

VERSE 1

We clawed, we chained our hearts in vain,

We jumped never asking why

We kissed, I fell under your spell

A love no one could deny

PRE CHORUS

Don't you ever say, I just walked away, I will always want you

I can't live a lie, running for my life, I will always want you

CHORUS

I came in like a wrecking ball

I never hit so hard in love

All I wanted was to break your walls

All you ever did was wreck me

yeah you, you wreck me

VERSE 2

I put you high up in the sky and now

You're not coming down

It slowly turned, you let me burn and now

We're ashes on the ground

PRE CHORUS

Don't you ever say, I just walked away

I will always want you

I can't live a lie, running for my life

I will always want you

CHORUS

I came in like a wrecking ball,

I never hit so hard in love

All I wanted was to break your walls

All you ever did was wreck me

I came in like a wrecking ball

Yeah I just closed my eyes and swung

Left me crashing in a blazing fall

All you ever did was wreck me

yeah you, you wreck me

BRIDGE

I never meant to start a war

I just wanted you to let me in

And instead of using force

I guess I should have let you win

I never meant to start a war

I just wanted you to let me in

I guess I should have let you win

PRE CHORUS

Don't you ever say, I just walked away,

I will always want you

CHORUS

(I came in like a wrecking ball

............................................

yeah you, you wreck me)

Yeah you, you wreck me...

So...did you get the pattern?

And yes, another important thing!

Rhyme...

Rhyming the words is very important as it makes the words more melodic, just like a poem. Read the lyrics above carefully and try to detect the rhymes.

chained - vain

fell - spell

why - deny

And so on...

Though, again, there are some songs without rhyming words, it plays a vital role. It makes the lyrics catchy and easier to memorize and sing.

So there you are! While writing lyrics, do not forget the pattern and the technique of rhyme!

This is the third and last step in this guide. Hope it was helpful to you.

So good luck! Go, write an awesome song!
