CHAPTER TWO- ON MY WAY DOWN
"I DO BUT KEEP THE PEACE."
--------------------
Juliet had only just boarded the Hogwarts Express before she was whisked away into the world of magic again. Being at home, of course, was very much influenced by magic, but it wasn't quite the same. Hogwarts held a sort of whimsy she held dear- a link to her childhood- whereas home just felt as though a place where she had to grow up in to morph with her family's needs. The rich wood interior of the Express reminded her of the magic that raised her.
She peeked into each compartment as she went along, trying desperately to search for Romeo, but it wasn't long before she was faced with a much bigger issue. Juliet Mavor had just opened the Pandora's Box of the Hogwarts Express- Harry Potter's compartment. She could feel her face go red. How could she have been so stupid? Juliet blinked as she stared into the faces of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. They had been leaning out the window, it seemed, as their faces were damp with the rain pouring down on the Platform. "Sorry," She stammered, "I was just looking for my friend. Have any of you seen Romeo Pieters, by chance? Fourth year Slytherin?" Juliet was nervous. She wasn't supposed to be interacting with them yet, she didn't think, and the guilt was overtaking her. Had she broken the law? The one and only law she was supposed to abide by that involved her condition?
Juliet could tell the trio was uncomfortable. Harry shifted in his seat, shoulders tensing. "I don't think we've seen him." Hermoine replied stiffly. Juliet bit her lip. "Oh. Well, thanks anyways. See you in Transfiguration." She slid the compartment door shut. It took her five more compartments to finally realize her mistake. She, based on her first fault, had accidentally exposed herself. It seemed like the biggest deal in the world, her heart starting to race with worry. She started to hastily look through each compartment, desperately hoping to find Romeo, until she finally stumbled upon a near-empty compartment.
There, taking up an entire seat with his legs, was Juliet's best and most important friend Romeo Pieters. Juliet inhaled deeply, finally feeling herself relax. "Oh, thank Merlin. Rome, I missed you so much." She leaned down and embraced him, feeling his exponential warmth radiate throughout her.
"There she is," He smiled, "Miss America." Juliet rolled her eyes, grinning.
"Oh, please. Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Oh? He disappeared without a trace the entire summer? That's interesting. Because I remember him telling me he'd owl me twice a week." Juliet sat on the other row of seats, unzipping her jacket and setting it beside her. "Where were you, anyways?" She questioned, kicking her feet up on top of his legs.
Romeo frowned. "My dad showed up. Took me to bloody Scotland for the entire summer on a work trip, then made me go to the Quidditch World Cup with the Malfoys. The fucking Malfoys. I know Lucius and Narcissa are his friends, but my god, Juliet, their kid is an asshole. An asshole, but hot. Crazy hot." He paused for a second. "Have you seen us? Together, I mean? Because if you have, that would be really great."
Juliet smiled. It was nice to finally see Romeo again, back to usual. He was a hopeless romantic- for men, that is. He blurted it out to Juliet as soon as she told him about her visions first year. She remembered it clear as day- they were out in the courtyard in the dead of winter, best friends, when she finally spilled. It only brought them closer, sharing secrets that they hadn't told anybody else. "You know I can't tell you anything, Rome," She laughed, eyes bright with excitement over her friend's reunion.
She watched as he sat up quickly, grabbing onto her hands. "Please? I just need to know if I'm going to have.. relations with that boy in the distant future." Romeo spoke with a newfound hastiness. It, for some unknown reason, set a trigger off in Juliet's mind.
"Oh, fuck, Draco," Romeo burst out, his lips smashing against the Malfoy boy's. Their hands scraped up and down, reliving every part of the other's body as if it was their first time experiencing it. They were pressed against the banister of the Astronomy Tower, lips locked in a continual dance.
Juliet inhaled sharply, eyes widening. She hadn't meant to see that. It felt as though she had invaded in Romeo's private life far too much in only one vision. "Oh, god," She muttered, staring at the floor. "I better go to the trolley. Before the witch leaves, you know? Yeah, I'll go do that. You want anything?" She spluttered, trying to cover up her mistake.
Romeo's eyes widened, a grin stretching across his lips. "Don't try to hide anything from me, Juliet Mavor. Now, am I or am I not going to screw Draco Malfoy in the future?" He pressed, keeping a strong grip on her hand as Juliet got up, sliding the compartment door open with a clang.
"Not telling," She whispered, a smirk budding on her rosy lips. And with that, Juliet slipped out of the compartment, walking down the corridor to get to the Trolley Witch. She couldn't help but laugh when she heard Romeo shout just after she had exited the tiny compartment. "I want a pasty! And a pack of gum!" She heard him shout. Of course, she already knew what he wanted. Every time they had gotten on the train, three years in a row, he would ask for those two things.
Juliet made her way up to the trolley, the witch pushing it giving her a small smile. "I'd like a pumpkin pasty, one packet of Drooble's, a stack of Cauldron Cakes, and one chocolate frog. Oh, and a coconut ice, please." She began to pull the coin purse she had from her pocket, filled to the brim with Galleons and Sickles. Juliet handed the witch some money- she knew the sweets' prices from memory, by this point- and collected all of her sweets in her arms.
She turned, only to be stopped by a more than familiar face. Juliet was startled by a long shot. She dropped her coconut ice, eyes drawn to the pink block of coconut on the ground. He bent down and picked it up, face blazing red. "Sorry," Harry Potter said, embarrassment shining through his voice like a beacon of light.
Juliet was flustered. She didn't know whether he had showed up to talk to her, or if he was merely here by chance, but what really shook her was that she hadn't seen this. Usually, the mundane interactions she would soon have with Harry Potter showed up constantly in her visions, but it was almost scary that she hadn't seen this coming. It could have quite possibly been a pivotal moment in their premature friendship, and Juliet was not going to risk it.
"Oh, it's fine," She muttered, feeling her cheeks burn as he stood and handed her the now inedible block of coconut ice. Juliet tried to get past him, back to the compartment, but he stopped her.
"I can get you a new one, if you like," He tried, pulling a handful of Sickles from his pocket. Juliet shook her head furiously.
"No, really, it's fine." Juliet said hastily, eyes focused on her compartment door behind him. She needed to sit down. It felt as though she was going to be sick. The future she sees is always right. So why would he be able to alter it? The thought ran through her mind on repeat, almost like a broken record. "I'm sorry, I really have to be off," She blurted, pushing past him with her shoulder and running back to her compartment. Romeo had the door open, waiting for her to return.
"Whoa. Are you okay, Jules?" He said, closing the door behind her. Juliet collapsed into the seat, dropping the sweets next to her in a heap.
"He changed it," She muttered, "He changed it, Rome. He changed our future." And with that, Juliet Mavor's eyes rolled back into her head, losing consciousness entirely.
