Just an Average Joe (A KathNiel Fanfic)

Chapter 3

“Okay ka lang, Kath?”

A ‘dashing dasho’, otherwise known as Enrique Gil, walked over to come to the rescue.

“Oo, okay lang ako”, Kathryn answered. Enrique held out his hand to help Kathryn get back on her feet. She gladly took it, stood back up, and brushed her shirt to get rid of any possible debris that could have landed on her. Suddenly, Enrique noticed something.

“Kath, may sugat ka o!” Enrique pointed to a cut on Kath’s knee. He then shifted his focus on Daniel, still sitting on the ground. “Tignan mo ang ginawa mo! Nasaktan si Kath nandahil sayo!”, Enrique angrily blurted out.

Daniel wanted to defend himself, but Enrique was right. He really was the one at fault.

Kung tinignan ko lang ang dinaanan ko, hindi mangyayari ‘to…

He was so embarrassed; how could he look Kathryn in the eyes now?

“Quen, ano ka ba? Huwag mo siyang sigawan! Aksidente lang naman”, Kathryn said. Daniel couldn’t believe his eyes; THE Kathryn Bernardo was defending him. Out of nowhere, a hand appeared in front of his face. That hand belonged to ‘the girl of his dreams’ este Kathryn, offering to help him up. Daniel looked up at Kath, flashing her genuine angelic smile.

“Salamat,” Daniel said as he happily took a hold of her hand. There was some struggle as Kath tried to pull Daniel up [after all, he was almost 6 feet tall].

“Bigat mo ah”, Kathryn joked. Daniel giggled, then answered.

“Di naman!” Hindi lang ‘to mabait, komedyante pa. Just my type…

As the two were exchanging giggles, someone sighed loudly in the background. Kath and Daniel turned around to find an annoyed Enrique.

“Kath, halika na! Kailangan igamot yung sugat mo. Tignan mo, dumudugo”, Enrique said. He then grabbed Kathryn by the wrist and started dragging her away. Despite being swiftly whisked away, Kathryn turned and shouted “Ano nga pala ang pangalan mo?”

Daniel cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted back, “Daniel! Daniel Padilla!” He then raised his eyebrows in his signature suave way.

“Ah sige, kitakits na lang next time! Nice meeting you!” Kathryn then waved goodbye, before her and Enrique disappeared into a hallway. Once they were out of sight, Daniel’s smile widened. He then threw his arms up in the air and screamed…

“NAMEET KO SI KATHRYN BERNARDO! WOOOOOOOOOO! BEST DAY EVER!”

This stunt definitely garnered him a lot of unpleasant stares. But Daniel could care less. He met the girl of his dreams, and no one could ruin this oh so perfect moment.

Daniel then remembered something he left in his pocket. He quickly reached into it, and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. He then unraveled it, trying to get rid of all the creases. He read what it said out loud…

“Angelicum College’s JS Prom. Only 2 months away. Hanapin mo na ang mga dates ninyo. This will truly be a night to remember.”  

Daniel suddenly had the craziest idea. He knew it was nearly impossible, but it could happen. All he needed was tiyaga and a lot of hard work.

Dadalhin ko si Kath sa JS Prom. Siya ang magiging date ko, he thought. Daniel’s thoughts drifted away, as he began plotting ‘Operation Get Kathryn Bernardo as My JS Prom Date’. As they say, libreng mangarap…
