Darkwater paced back and forth in the King's study, her fingers drumming on the long oak table as she walked. She had gone too far. The King was completely useless now, a mere shell of the man he had once been. She should have slowed down, now she wasn't sure if she could get him to do ANYTHING anymore. She would have to use her backup plan, bending the princess to her will. While the princess had not so blindly trusted her, Darkwater still had enough influence over her to use her if the King expired. Not a total loss.

But of course, she thought grimly. There is still the matter of the prophecy. Her thoughts changed from contemplative to irritated. That resistance fire spinning brat fits it too perfectly. While Darkwater had been aware of the prophecy for years, she hadn't considered it threatening until now. Now there was a fire spinning child back in Karda, and she was afraid it would be her downfall. Not to mention the fact that she had been brought here by that changeling nuisance.

"She will just have to meet her end," Darkwater said out loud. "But how to get her here?"

Suddenly, it was all clear in her head. If the fire spinner were to have a mission to get inside the castle, it would be very easy to have her killed by a guard. The King did not allow rangers inside his own home, sadly, but a human guard would do.

It was a good thing Darkwater had influence inside the resistance. This would be too easy. She laughed to herself. Things seemed to be turning around.
