Hi I am Jazz.
I first moved to the outskirts of Whitechapel two years ago. It was the third instate move we made since we came to Canada. My sister and I were homeschooled, making each move slightly easier but still, Dad said Whitechapel, Ontario was our new forever home.
Third times the charm right?
I wish.
A peaceful 6 months into my new life here and everything got completely flipped.
I remember we were driving because Mum had promised us girls ice cream and a spa day. We had gotten good grades after a particular tough semester. Dad decided to tag along to and go and check out the new sports centre that opened up around the corner. One moment no one was there and then, it came out of nowhere. It was all so fast.
We were driving back, it wasn't gloomy or dark. There were no clouds or rain, one lane on each side with only us driving down the long narrow road. Maybe there was a turn we didn't see, maybe he was drunk.
We never knew, whoever or whatever hit us was gone from the scene by the time someone came along and found us. The perp left without a trace. The police searched the area and found nothing.I don't know how I survived, I had multiple fractures around my body, bruises and enough shattered glass on me you'd think I was covered in snow. But somehow I survived, only I survived.
The next week it was named one of the most mysterious car crashes ever in The Whitechapel Weekly, which wasn't really important here after a week or two.
With no other family, I was sent into a massive group home near the North side of Whitechapel. It's a big family, and very noisy. My foster parents were sweet at first but by the end of my first few months, the enthusiasm went away and so did they. They stopped coming for meal times, leaving us kids to cook ourselves, leaving for work before we would wake up and even forgetting my name!
I always ended up being called bunch of names, but none that were actually my own. The most being my foster sisters names Emily, Brooke, Lauren, Ava and even Sophie. It used to annoy me but now, I respond to them all.Speaking of Brooke and Emily, they seem to be the ones running everything in the house. They take care of Ava and Lauren as well as some of the other kids whereas I normally look after Sophie and Daniel. Other siblings also help with the kids but they are our main captains, making sure we stay on track for the day.
Now enough about that, I wanted to tell you the good news!
I will be finally be going to school! Like a real school with other kids and stuff.
When I moved to my foster home, Child Services still had me down for the homeschooling program and just, never changed it. The program was good but with my mum gone, they needed a new teacher. Each week a new teacher would come , teach me for that week, then I'd never see them again. It was working out ok until one day, no one came. Whenever I'd email them, they'd bounce right back. So, with no teacher and no parent to help me re-enrol elsewhere. I decided it was easier to get books out from the local library and read up. I mean, what else could I do while the youngest children were napping?
Last week they did an audit and found out I wasn't actually in school. With the fault going to the school for lack of attendance they put me in immediate enrolment at the local Whitechapel High School.
They want me to be in Junior high to start but I am already 15, so they've given me the option to apply to start in their high school. All I need to do is pass a test and I'm in! It is halfway through the school year so I hope there's not much I have to catch up on.
Friends will most likely will be an issue but because Emily is in year 10 and Brooke is in year 12, they promised that they would introduce me to their friends.
First Emily's friends then maybe Brooke's friends and Brooke's boyfriend.
I hope it goes well!
Wish me luck!!
