Strange Love

I felt like I couldn't breath as my feet pounded against the ground, running for my life. My breath felt like glass in my throat. And my lungs felt like fire. As the dog barks got louder and the trees passed by faster, I started loosing hope. I quickly grabbed the lowest tree branch and pulled myself up, I climbed and climbed until I was almost at the very top of the tree. I sat on a branch and tried to catch my breath.  

"Thank god for track" I thought to myself. I looked down to see the dogs barking up at me. I sighed and rested my head against the tree. I closed my eyes and groaned.

"Now what?" I said to no one. I twisted to reach for my backpack when a sharp pain shot through my back. I hissed at the feeling and put my hand on my shoulder, it felt wet. I brought my hand back around and it was covered in blood.

"Well doesn't that just put the cherry on top of this situation" I say sarcastically. I sat up slowly and reached for my bag cautiously. I pulled it off my back and inhaled sharply when it pulled on my injured shoulder. I leaned against the tree and pulled out my phone. I scrolled through my contacts until I got to the name I needed. I clicked on the name and hit call.

riiiiing  riiiiing  riiiiing  riiiiin-

"Hello?" 

"Heeeey, Amelia! Who's my favorite gal pal? My number one? My jelly to my peanut butt-"

"What on earth do you need right now Liam? Its 6 o'clock and you woke me up from my very much needed scheduled nap."

"Ahaha, yeah sorry about that, but I'm in some trouble so if you could-"

"Liam, we've already had this discussion,  I am way to young to go to jail. I mean I guess this one time I can help but no more gambling. Now, how much money do you need?"

"Gambling? What on earth are you talking about? I went back to that barn that we found to look around and there was a pack of wild dogs there and they jumped me, luckily I got away but now I'm stuck in a tree with them below me."

"Ohhhhh. My bad. Yeah I can be there, I can see where you location is and come get you"

"Be careful of the dogs" I said as I looked down at the dogs still barking at me.

"Yeah yeah, I got it"

-later-

I check my phone for it to read six forty-five. I sighed and looked down to see that the dogs had finally left me alone. I dropped my bag down to the ground and slowly made my way down to the bottom of the tree. Before I can reach the bottom I can hear my name being called out. i looked up and saw Amelia making her way over in my direction.

"Amelia!" I said. Right when she looked up at me the branch I was not-so-gracefully sitting on snapped and I fell to the ground.

"HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THAT HURT LIKE A MOTHERFU-"

"Liam! Watch you language!" She said as she knelled to my side.

"God, sorry. I have a cut or something on my shoulder blade and I just fell on it." I winced as I slowly sat up. Amelia put her hand on the center of my back to help me sit up.

"It looks like one of the dogs nicked your shoulder, but it doesn't look very deep. Here let me get you to my car." I nodded and started standing up. "Wait where is your car." 

"I took the bus" 

"Of course you did" She smiled and rolled her eyes at me "I totally forgot that you and that one old lady are the only ones who ride the bus." I frowned as she smiled at me.

"Me and Rita are not the only people who ride the bus." Amelia looked at me and raised an eyebrow at me.

"Rita?" I frowned as she started laughing at me.

"Yes, her name is Rita and she is a very nice old lady, she knits." She smiled at me and chuckled.

"Okay buddy." 

When we finally got to her car, She helped me slide in and helped me buckle up. She went to the driver side and started the car. 

"Have everything you need?" I nodded and we left. As we drove away I watched the trees pass by. I rested my head against the window and closed my eyes. I felt exhausted, and my shoulder was throbbing from all of the pain, and I was just ready to go home. 

And before I knew it, I was at Amelia's house. 

She helped me get out of the car and rushed me to her bathroom. She swung open the door and sat me down on the toilet. She pulled out the small first aid kit that was under the sink and got out a old towel. 

"Here we'll put this against the cut to stop the bleeding." She gently put the cloth of my shoulder and added pressure. Then she pulled out the rubbing alcohol and dabbed the towel in it. 

"And of course so it doesn't get infected" But when she gently put it against my shoulder it started to sting. I inhaled sharply and squeezed my hands together.

"Sorry" She said. After we finally got the bleeding to slow down, she pressed a gauze against the cut and kept it down with medical tape.

"There. You should change the gauze every couple hours so that it doesn't get infected and always clean it before you put the new gauze on it."

"Thanks Amelia, what would I do without you?"

"I dunno probably be dead or something" She smiled and helped me up. "Oh and...is the other part of you okay?" She asked me, concern in her eyes. I smiled and nodded.

"Yeah their fine" She nodded, but she still looked concern.

"I'll leave you in here for a bit to get adjusted, I'm sure their going to hurt because of your shoulder." I nodded.

"Oh yeah, one hundred percent" She left the bathroom and I walked up to the mirror and turned on the sink. I twisted my back and felt the pop go all the way up my spine. I took off the rest of my shirt that remains and looked in the mirror. I lowered my head into the sink and let the water fall over my head. I sighed to the cool feeling of the water and ran my fingers through my hair. I sat back up and ran a towel through my hair.

"You look like a mess" I said to no one. I felt the tension in my back and slowly opened them.

I stood there looking in the mirror looking at my wings. 

"I am a mess" I turned off the sink and left the bathroom.
