Lola
The text I receive after class makes my blood run cold.
My office after school.
Alpha is a patient asshole. Like a snake in the grass he always waits to strike at me. Our assignations always take place in his office. He is so careful to mask our scents, to hide any evidence of my involvement with him.
Losing Mackenzie must be preying on his mind. He wants his release.
My fingers dance on the keys of my phone. One of his many, many rules for me is that I have to respond immediately to any communication from him. I want so badly to ignore this, to say 'no.' I promised Bastian I wouldn't hurt him again and if I have to suffer for it then so be it. I will die before letting that bastard touch me again.
I duck into the girl's restroom and flush my phone down the toilet.
Shit. Not my best idea. Alpha Roland can still get to me a half-dozen ways, but maybe this will slow him down. I need a plan. Somehow I have to resist. I can do this. I can keep it together.
"Lola?" I hear Mackenzie's voice from outside the stall.
I flush the toilet again and come out with a teary, red face. "I dropped my phone in the toilet and flushed it," I blurt out.
Mackenzie stares at me, startled, before she starts laughing. My return smile is weak and she stops. My stomach is already starting to cramp, but I can't be sure that is from ignoring my alpha or just plain stress.
"Do you need to go to the nurse?"
"N-no," I whisper. I thought I was recovered from the awful internal bleeding from a week ago, but I can feel the taste of iron in my mouth. Black spots dance in my vision as panic hits me.
I can't go to him, never again. Never, never again.
Mackenzie is shaking me, her lips are moving, but I can't hear anything over the ringing noise. I am being a bad girl. I am not obeying.
Strong arms scoop me up as blackness descends.
Consciousness comes back slowly. I can hear before I can see.
"She is breaking an alpha's order, baby. I just do not know what she was ordered to do or not do."
"She flushed her phone down the toilet, Ry."
I smile at the nickname. Ry and Mac, cute.
"Lola, we are headed to my office. I have not alerted your alphason or alpha yet." Of course Alpha Ryker knows I am waking up.
I shiver at the word alpha as everything comes flooding back. I blink open my eyes, the sun hitting them and immediately causing tears.
"Shh, slowly." Mackenzie strokes my hair. My head is in her lap as Ryker drives us... to his office on neutral territory, he said. "Sweetheart, she's really scared." I hear Mackenzie whisper.
"We will figure this out."
"Bastian," I croak.
There is a pregnant pause, then, "Do you want me to call him?"
"No, please. N-not... not his father." I'm not making sense and I know it. I swallow back my nausea. Bastian can't know what his father does. I am a good girl. Good girls don't harm their alphas. I have to listen to my alpha's orders.
I hear Ryker say something complete with a few snarls and growls, then the car pulls to a gentle stop. "He's a good driver, Mac," I slur.
She snickers a little at me, then Ryker is picking me up out of the car. I feel uncomfortable in his arms, like I am a thief stealing into Mackenzie's territory, but I'm pretty sure my legs won't hold me up right now, and my eyes are still sensitive to the light.
