"Turn your face toward the sun and the shadows will fall behind you."

Katniss POV

I awake to the early morning sun rising in the sky, making the glass-smooth surface of the lake flash with streaks of red, orange, yellow and pink. I reach my hand out from under the blanket it's trapped in to feel that the grass around us is cool with wet dew; the fresh sunlight bouncing off it makes it look like its glowing and it also makes the silver band around my finger reflect brightly into my eyes.

My face splits into a grin as I bring my hand up to my face to admire the beauty thats on my finger just like I did a million times the night before. It's such a simple design, just the pearl set into a thin and simple silver band. I love it. Smiling still, I pull it off my finger for the first time to admire it as a whole and as I do so something catches my attention, something on the inside of the band. Bringing it closer to my eyes I see that in fact there's an inscription in the gleaming sliver and it's just as simple as the ring itself.

Always.

That word that means so much to me and evidently to Peeta too. It means that he'll stay with me always, that he'll always be there to fight away the nightmares. And I guess that's what marriage is, a promise to always be there for the other and, thinking about it, it makes perfect sense that Peeta would choose to inscribe it. He really does think of everything and he seems to remember an awful lot about our relationship, even pre-hijacking stuff like that night in the train.

I'm still grinning as I think about how perfect my boyfriend- wait, no, I mean my fiancé, is; my smile only gets wider when I think of that word, fiancé.

It's weird, I'm so happy at the fact that I'm engaged and that I have someone to call my fiancé even though my whole life I've been dead set against marriage. Even yesterday morning with Annie and Johanna I was unsure about the whole idea but I guess that when Peeta looked at me and said all those wonderful and romantic things, the things that are now perfectly permanently inscribed in my memory, the word 'yes' automatically tumbled out of my mouth. It seems my heart knew what I really wanted more than my brain ever did. The thing is, I don't think I would be this happy for marriage if it was anyone but Peeta. Peeta is the one for me, he always has been regardless to weather I knew it or not.

Gently and slowly, so I won't wake him up, I turn over in the strong arms that hold me to come face to face with Peeta. He's sleeping peacefully, his blonde hair flopping down his forehead and tangling with those incredibly long eyelashes. I take in the smaller details of his face that sometimes go unnoticed such as the small spread of freckles that sprawl across his nose or the slight rosiness of pink that seems to be permanently flushed across his cheeks. I'm just thinking about the way his jaw curves when his blue eyes flutter open and snap into mine.

'Hey.' He says in a lazy voice of someone who just woke up, a smile spreading across his face as I draw patterns on his bare chest with a finger.

'Hey yourself.' I reply tilting my chin to his, causing my cool lips to quickly brush against his. Peeta snakes a hand around the back of my neck and pulls my lips to fit against his again, this time the kiss is long and lingering; just thinking that I will be able to kiss him every morning like this for the rest of my life sends small, pleasant shivers up and down my spine.

We pack everything up and dress quickly just as the birds start appearing on branches, singing their melodies to us. We walk hand-in-hand through the woods listening to the variety of songs; both of us have an un-wipeable smile on our face that has nothing to do with the birds.

The minute we step through the door a head pops around the kitchen doorway. Annies gaze goes straight to my hand and, when she notices the ring, she squeals and runs towards us to wrap is into a hug; Finley follows, staggering along behind her.

'I'm so glad you said yes Kat! You guys are going to get married and live happily ever after!' When she breaks away from the hug I see that tears have filled her green eyes. I guess after all the points in our lives when "happily ever after" looked impossible, the fact that it's actually in our reach is emotional for anyone. She wipes away her tears and grabs my hand in both of hers to inspect the ring.

Just then Johanna bursts into the room from the lounge with a phone clutched to her ear, she talking into it saying, 'Yeah, they're just here.' She then lowers it, pressing the speaker against her t-shirt and looks at me and Peeta.

'Its Caesar Flickerman.'
