~ 3 weeks later ~
(Joe's PoV)
Today's Ellie's appointment. Me and Di agreed we'd both take the day off of school and go together to it. I knew she'd end up grateful for me coming even if she was a bit resistant at first. I was really nervous and knew Dianne was as well. This was just further tests but it would confirm if any surgery would be needed in the near future. We'd already done our exams in the spring so it wasn't the time from school work I was worried about. It was someone working out why she wasn't always at school. Dianne never goes outside with Ellie on her own and barely touches her when she's out with her mum. It's not a healthy habit but i know it's what she thinks she needs to do and I have to respect that.
I arrived at 10:45 and Dianne was just getting her ready to leave. Her mum would take us and pick us up after as she had work and we'd be there for most of the day. I could tell Dianne was nervous as she was biting her lip.
"Stop biting your lip babe, you're going to hurt yourself." I said.
" Sorry I'm just nervous."
I knew that already but I just held her hand and kissed her nose. The car ride was about 25 minutes and we were all silent the whole way.
(Dianne's POV)
When we got to the hospital my mum walked Ellie in and as soon as we got to the waiting room Joe took her off of her. I said goodbye to her and told her I'd text her as soon as I knew anything and when we were done. Seeing Joe comforting Ellie made me feel calm. I'm so glad I've got someone who loves me and my daughter.
They called us into the room and gave us a small hospital gown for her. I dressed her in it and put her clothes in my bag. A nurse came in to give her an IV and she cried in pain. I stood there frozen as Joe comforted her. Tears welled up in my eyes and I felt Joe take my hand. I squeezed it back and wiped away my tears. I'm grateful that I've met someone who loves me and my daughter.
"Thank you." I whisper, kissing his cheek gently.
