"It's motherfucking New Year's Eve!" Zane yelled drunkenly as David held the camera.
All of David's friends were partying it up poolside. The hotel had hired a DJ and there were people drunkenly partying throughout the entire resort. David didn't really drink, but he was having a good time filming all of his friends and had a few shots. Sophia's mom and sister decided to head back up to the room after dinner, but her dad was drunk as fuck and living it up with David's friends, which looked really funny on the vlog. Everyone was just living in the moment and having a really great time. Everyone except for Sophia. The crowd was really starting to overwhelm her. She would've been fine if David had stayed with her, but he'd disappear at the first sight of something fun to film. She wanted to go back to the room, but David wanted to be with her at midnight. She didn't know how much longer she could last in the crowd because her anxiety was starting to get to her. She stood alone, staring at the ground and swirling the drink in her hand nervously.
"Hey pretty lady. What are you doing all alone?" Said a husky voice from behind her. He stepped out in front of her, towering over her small frame.
"My boyfriend just went to get something. He's coming right back."
"Funny, cause I don't see him."
"Well, he'll be back any second." Sophia muttered. backing away from him instinctively. The guy reached out and grabbed her arm tightly, making her wince.
"If I were him, I'd never leave a pretty little thing like you alone. Too risky." He smirked, yanking her towards his body forcefully.
"P-please leave me alone."
"Aw babygirl, don't be like that."
Sophia tried pulling her arm from his hold, but his grip only tightened. She couldn't run because the crowd was a wall around her. She couldn't call for David because the music was too loud and he wouldn't hear her. She was too scared to grab her phone because she was worried he'd hurt her. She was completely frozen in fear because she had no idea what to do.
"Who's this?" said a familiar voice behind her. She sighed in relief when the man finally let go of her arm.
"He didn't introduce himself." Sophia muttered angrily, wrapping an arm around Matt and hiding behind his tall frame.
"Have a good night, sweetheart." The man smirked sleazily before disappearing into the crowd.
"Are you okay?" Matt asked worriedly, pulling her into a hug.
"I need to go to my room. I can't do this anymore." Sophia mumbled, biting her lip to keep herself from crying.
"Do you have your key?"
"I'm just gonna get one from the front desk. If David asks where I am, tell him I'm in the room."
They said their goodbyes before Sophia forcefully weaved through the hundreds of bodies blocking her path. On the way there, she ran into David filming Zane making out with two girls. He was screaming as he laughed, recording every second. Once he filmed what he needed, Sophia approached him hestiantly.
"David?" She sighed, reaching for his hand. He turned and smiled widely, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her against his frame.
"Where have you been all night?" He smirked, resting his hand on her ass and kissing her hungrily.
"How much did you drink?"
"Not important. What is important is you kissing me right now."
"Babe, I'm going up to the room. There's too many people out here and it's making me anxious."
"But it's not midnight?" David mumbled, scratching the back of his neck in confusion.
"I know but stuff has happened and I just can't handle being out here anymore."
"Honestly, you're being really fucking dramatic. There's not even that many people, Sophie."
"I'm going to the room." Sophia muttered flatly, pulling away from him and walking towards the hotel lobby. She knew that he was drunk and she didn't wanna pick a fight with him. The hotel staff was really nice and got her a key to her room relatively quickly. She didn't want to be alone on New Year's Eve, so she sent Luci a quick text to check if she was awake. No answer. She texted the only other person she knew wouldn't be at the party.

It didn't take her long to arrive at Jason's room. She knocked lightly and smiled when Wyatt opened the door. She greeted him with a quick hug before following him out to the couch. She hugged everyone before Trisha dragged her out to the balcony to hear the full story of what had happened. Sophia went into every detail, from her anxiety with the crowd to the encounter with the man. Trisha listened intently, biting her nail nervously.
"And now I'm kinda pissed a David for being an ass. but he's also drunk? I don't know." Sophia sighed, running her fingers through her hair.
"I think you did the right thing. You should never be in an environment where you feel unsafe or anxious. If David is too much of a child to realize that, it's his problem."
"But now I sorta feel guilty because I left him before midnight and he's gonna be alone for the countdown."
"He could've come back up to the room with you. Neither of you would've been alone, but he wanted to be down there to film. That's not your fault."
Sophia and Trisha made their way back inside before plopping onto the couch next to Jason and the kids. The clock began its countdown. The kids screamed excitedly as they called out the numbers. Jason and Trisha held each other as they got increasingly louder.

Sophia put on a smile and cheered along with the kids. Jason and Trisha gave each other a quick kiss before hugging Charlie and Wyatt. This wasn't the way she thought she'd bring in the new year, and she was admittedly really sad. She stuck around for a few more minutes before saying her goodbyes. She took the elevator up to her floor and went to her room. All alone, she showered before drifting to sleep.
