"So you have how many book cases in your room?" Adam asks in disbelief as we make our way out of the school and into the warm summer sun. I reply with a giggle because of the shocked expression he has on, "I have one and a half," I start to explain, "The half one was damaged by my dad trying to build it."

A smile spreads on my face without permission because of the hilarious memory of my dad losing his cool of trying to build the second book self in my room for hours which my dad left it has it was out of frustration. "But I'm getting a third one for Christmas!" I say excitingly to Adam, who replies with a laugh and pulls out a pack of Camels cigarettes from the packet of his leather jacket followed by his other hand to grab a red lighter. "Before you say smoking is bad for me, I already know," He says to me while lighting it, "So please save the wasted words."

"Oh trust me I wasn't." I say while rolling my eyes, Adam looks at me with a smirk, "I take action sometimes." I yank the cigarette from his fingers and snap the cancer stick in half and step on it when I threw it on parking lot ground.

Adam's smirk falls like a wave crashing onto the beach, "My baby!" He exclaims while looking at the ground in sorrow for a second then quickly looks at me with furrowed eyebrows, " You know Alice, for a short person, you seem to be less afraid of me compared to people my height. Now I'm afraid of you, since you murdered my babies!"

"Babies as in killing machines that clog lungs with cancer, you mean!" I exclaim at Adam who raises his hands in surrender. I look at the broken cigarette and I start to feel bad. Stupid Alice, doesn't think before she acts. I sigh, "I'm sorry, that was rude of me," I admit as I begin to dig through my wallet, "Let me pay you back for that."

Adam lets out a booming laugh that bounces between the cars and echos throughout the lot. "You're so weird, Alice!" Adam laughs.

"I prefer the word eccentric," I point out while raising a finger to clear blue sky. I hold a grin back as Adam arches his left eyebrow at me like trying to think of something. I ditch the grin and go for a smirk and teasingly say, "You know the word that means—."

"Yeah yeah....I get it!" He says back to me slightly annoyed. I finally retrieve a ten dollar bill for him from my quick sand of a wallet, "But, Alice I need a push to stop smoking and I think your perfect for that!"

I look at him bewildered, "Are you serious?" I ask which he nods and looks at the ten dollar bill, "I'll still take the money though!" Adam grins excitedly. I roll my eyes and place it in my wallet.

Adam and I stop in walking, "Welp, this is my car." I say awkwardly. I curse myself for being socially awkward in my head, I always tell myself it's awkward when you make it awkward, but here I go again making it awkward. Adam chuckles at me.

"Okay, Alice!" He smiles, "I'll see you later."

I start to feel dread of the thought of going home because I'll be alone once there. Truly makes me feels like a kid, who doesn't want to leave the fun party and the parents have to drag them to the car. It was unexpectedly fun hanging out with Adam. Sure, it started out pretty rough, but he's not a jerk, Adam is the opposite.

A sigh leaves my lips like a light summer breeze pushing its way through the trees.

"Actually, Alice do you wanna hangout now?"

The summer breeze quickly gets swallowed back into my throat and I snap my head towards Adam in surprise, "Really?" I excitedly ask him and he nods with a genuine smile. "Yeah, lets hangout!" I say. We get into my car and start to think on where to hangout at, "Where to go?" Adam asks himself, out load.

"How about the town's diner?"

"I never went there before." He replies.

My mouth drops in shock, "You've never been to York Diner?" I ask him, and he shakes his head, "Oh my god, it's so good!" I exclaim.

"Okay, lets go there then." He chuckles

"Sweet!" I say and begin to pull out of the parking lot. Adam plays with the radio knob trying to find his kid of music which is indie rock, classic rock, and sometimes metal. When he told his type of music I said how he must love to dig around, because of the rock music. Adam didn't like my cheesy pun.

The drive to York Diner was short and once there a seat was quickly given to us. Sitting across from Adam in the red booth made me start to feel weird. In fear of having a panic attack I pretend to read the menu incase I had to cover up my anxiety. Wish it was that simple. Questions start to fill my head pondering if I'm making the right choice.

Do I wanna be friends with him because I'm desperate for one or is it because he's fun? Or both?

"Hey, Alice."

I peer over my menu and look at his pink lips which I trail to his light brown eyes, "Y-yeah?" I timidly ask, "Your menu is upside down." Adam says with one eyebrow arched. I quickly blush and fix my menu, I then notice Adam rubbing the back of his neck like a nervous person confessing their sins to a priest. "I need to be honest about something," Adam trails off, "I don't wanna just be your bodyguard and a motive speaker because of our deal. I genuinely wanna be friends with you."

I slowly lower the menu down and let out a huge sigh of relief, "Thank goodness it's just not me," I start to say, "I was thinking the same thing like do I wanna be friends with you because I truly need one to survive senior year or because of your characteristics of being a good guy! Then I started to feel bad and fake because I was in the gray area and I-!"

"Alice, chill!" Adam exclaims, "You're rambling off like a lunatic."

"I ramble a lot when nervous or confessing stuff." I admit, "But I'm all seriousness, you and I are on the same boat to what you said earlier."

"Good, but now the question is," He stops the sentence and leans into the table, building my suspense, "Chocolate milkshake or mint chocolate chip milkshake?"

I giggle at his off topic question, "Why not a chocolate mint chocolate chip milkshake?" I ask him with a smirk which he gives on back, "I like your idea of think Ms. Wolf." He says to me.

"Why thank you Mr. Smith."

A waitress comes over and apologizes for the long wait then takes our order. Two keeps full of kids from our school catches my attention, I look out the window and see the group of boys and girls walk towards the door of York Diner and is given a big booth. Out of the group I recognized one boy immediately, and that's Danny James since he's always been in my history class up until freshmen year.

"Is that your crush?" Adam bluntly asks.

"W-what?!" I blush harshly at his question, "O-oh no, I just know him since we always had the same history class since freshmen year that's all!"

"Oh..." Adam says coolly, but suddenly gets all hyped. I can't tell if it's the sugar from the sweet chocolate mint chocolate chip milkshake in front of him or an idea he might be processing. "You should go talk to him!" Adam suggests, "Which won't be too hard since you had class with him for about four years."

I peer over his should to look at Danny's table, "Geez, I'd rather wait another day because that's where all of the popular kids at sitting."

He rolls his eyes, "What are we a early 2000s movies where the popular kids are idiotic assholes?" Adam asks, "But if you want to talk to him alone then take your time, just promise me you will."

"I promise I will talk to him the next time I see him." I say while dipping a hot french fry in the cream of my chocolate strawberry milkshake.

I also promise to myself to talk to Danny whenever I get the chance to.
