My Journey to California

My life was a mess,
falling troubled drugs
jail needles prison
my dear elderly father
just wanted his daughter back
he gave forty grand
to the rehab, I'd go
"fix her, bring her back to me. I love her"
to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida I went
who knew rehab would have a pool?
Sundays were beach days
bbq's for dinner after yoga
free gym memberships at LA fitness to go
when it feels like a vacation
first thought is a party
and that is where I left to go
I partied it up
drank and I smoked
until the sun came rose
and I put out my thumb
who wouldn't want to see California?
I hitch and I hiked
across the whole country
meeting ever Jane Doe in sight
I slept in the grass,
the beach,
and the sidewalk
panhandling my way to the store
the universe saved me
I never went a day without eating
California is gorgeous
quite a sight you should see
rocky mountains, endless oceans
the weather is perfect
humidity not even a factor
western people are humble
don't know what you're missing
I don't have a regret or a doubt in my bones
