Every few years, we would move; so no one would grow suspicious of us. Edward would repeat his years in high school over and over again.  Carlisle and I begin working at new hospitals. It was tiring, coming up with new lies to tell people. I couldn't keep track of which lie I had told which person. We had been doing this for fifteen years now.

As of now, it was just me, Carlisle, and Edward(who had recently discovered his ability to read minds).  Our current lie was 'Edward is my son, and Carlisle is my brother who was helping me raise him'. As detailed as the lie was, it made me feel almost...sad.  Maybe Carlisle was too flustered to say that I was his wife.  It's not like we were married, but I thought there was something between us.  I shouldn't think too hard on it.

We had been in Rochester, New York, for about a week now.  Carlisle was still working at the hospital while Edward and I unpacked.  In a way, this was our form of bonding.  Moving around all the time causes you to have to pack and unpack often.

I heard a knock on the door.

"Edward, can you get that? My hands are full." I asked.

Edward nodded and went to answer the door.  I heard two voices.  One belonged to Carlisle; the other I was unfamiliar with. The voice belonged to a woman. I put down the vase that I was holding and took a look.  This woman was beautiful.  Her eyes were filled with a hunger that I had once known.  Her hair was frazzled, and her breath was ragged.  Who was she?  A lover?

Seeing him with another woman gave me an empty feeling in my chest, like I was missing something.  I knew I was in love with Carlisle, but I wanted him to be mine.
