His call came in at four thirty. I was going over his schedule for the following week and trying to work in a second retreat for us. It wasn't working out too well, it would have to wait till the following weekend. I reached for the phone and answered. "Hey rockstar, how was the flight?" I asked. "Not too bad, the damn layover was a bitch though. What are you up to?" "Working on next week. Pretty busy, not much time to run off." I answered. "Well, we'll figure something out. Your sleeping arrangements are gonna be changing too. Just sayin." I laughed. "Your mom might have an issue with that." "My mom needs to realize that I'm almost twenty. Maybe I should consider moving out." "That's something we should discuss when you get back, not really something you should just jump into." "I love your voice. So sexy." "Oh lord, knock it off, you act like you've been gone for a month." "I feel like I've been gone for a month." We flirted back and forth for a little while, he was unbelievable sweet on the phone. Truthfully, I loved his voice too, it melted me.
I fell asleep early that night. My dreams were fantastic. But, then, who's dreams wouldn't be amazing if they were dating the worlds most perfect man? I'll just say there was a white dress involved, and a tropical vacation. I woke up totally content, well aside from the fact that my love was hundreds of miles away from me. It was then that I decided to surprise him. I had pretty much caught up on everything and then some. I ordered my tickets for the following morning. I'd be in Chicago in time to surprise him before the concert. I couldn't wait.
It was so hard for me to keep it a secret. With each phone call and text I wanted more and more to tell him. Each time he would tell me he wished I was there, all I wanted to say was that I soon would be. But I wanted to see his face when I popped in at the preshow. It would be priceless.
That night I packed a small overnight bag. I reheated some leftover chicken casserole for dinner, took a long hot shower, called Ross to say goodnight. Then I took a melatonin and layed down. The sooner I fell asleep, the sooner I'd be in my baby's arms.
I woke up before my alarm clock went off. I sat up and stretched with a huge smile on my face. Then I threw on my robe and went downstairs to get a cup of coffee. Then back up and into the shower. It's was 6:40, my flight left LAX at 10:15. Plenty of time.
I arrived at the airport at 8:45. Oddly I was through security and at my gate a full forty five minutes before the departure time. Just as I sat down and got situated, I got a text from Ross. "Why aren't you here? Lonely without you!" I smiled a huge smile and text back. "Only a few more days love. Call me after the show :)" "Y? U busy now?" "Kinda, about to go under the dryer at Tempest. But I'll text you when I'm outta here. Love you!!!" "Love you too baby MWAH!!!" I felt kinda bad being so short with him, but it was so hard not telling him I was coming, not talking to him was the best way to do it.
I was FINALLY called onto the plane. After I stowed my carry on, I pulled out my headphones and zoned into the movie. Before I knew it, we had touched down.
Emerging from the airport, I crawled into one of the cabs that were hovering outside. "Where to?" the cabbie asked. At that point I realized I had no clue what hotel they were at, and worse yet, no idea where the preshow party was being held. I figured I'd try to coax it out of Ross with a text. "Hey sexy, whatcha dooooin?" "Chillin in my room till party time' U?" "Nada, bored, drinkin some coffee, watchin some tv. Better be good at that party. Don't be getting all chummy with any of those fangirls!" "Yah right. It's not a PARTY party anyway. Just a few ppl who bought VIP passes and us and the crew in the ballroom here. Lol!" "Ballroom huh? Must be a swanky hotel." "
