Twelve Years Ago/

It was storming. That was her first memory, slick cold rain pounding upon her round cheeks.

The next memory was pain, scorching and intense it burned through her spine with an intensity that brought her knees slamming into the pavement. But the pain of the impact was nothing, nothing compared to the scorching pain on her back

Who was she?
How old was she?
Where was she?

She looked down at her hands, a scraped mess with patchwork blood.

There was a road next to her, cars wiping by unbothered by the girl on the side of the road.

A wave of pain washed over her, sending her lurching forward.

God, it felt like something was growing out of her.

She brought her hands behind her back desperately, her arm aching from the stretch.

And there in the center of her back, between her shoulder blades, there was something jutting out of her skin.

She brought her hand back, revealing deep, scarlet blood. Lots of it. Too much.

Oh, god.

And then the world was black.
