I stir awake, my eyes fluttering open and my mouth letting out a yawn. I go to stretch but notice my arm is hooked around someone's waist. I look down and see Faith fast asleep in my side, her nose poking my ribs and her legs tangled with my own as she holds onto me in her sleep. I smile down at her, forgetting that I spent the night.
I run a hand through her locks and kiss the top of her head, doing my best to carefully get out of bed and to not wake her. I pull on my t-shirt and head out of her room quietly, walking towards the kitchen where I hear coffee being made. "Morning, Ope." I see Pat standing in the kitchen with his glasses on looking at me. "Cup o' joe?"
I nod, "Yeah, that would be great." I pat down the pockets of my jeans, looking for my smokes but have no luck. "Shit." I murmur, letting out a sigh.
Pat chuckles, tossing me his pack and smirking, "Have 'em, I have a carton in the garage." The coffee finishes and Pat takes out two mugs, pouring coffee in both. "What do you take?"
"Two cream, two sugar." I tell him as I lean against the counter. He passes me the mug with a grin, "Thanks."
"Not a problem, now let's go for a smoke." He tells me as he walks to the door leading to the garage. We head in and he pulls the garage door open, letting in some sunshine and warmth. He walks over and takes a seat on one of the lawn chairs he has in their large garage and signals to the one beside him for me to join. I take a seat and pull out a smoke, handing him one and taking one for myself. We light our morning fix and inhale the nicotine while sipping our coffee and staring out to the peaceful street. "You know, I'm glad you two are seeing each other again, whatever it is."
I raise my eyebrow, surprised to hear that from him, especially after what I did to his daughter all those years ago. "Yeah, me too. I didn't think it would ever happen." I admit and Pat shrugs.
"I hate to say it, but we all fuck up. I wasn't the best with Jess, and there's nothing I can do to change the past, but I can make sure that today and the next day that that shit never happens again." He tells me and I nod, agreeing with him. "She loves ya' a lot, Ope, and truthfully, there's not many guys I'd pick to be with my daughter. Her last guy was a prick."
I chuckle drinking my coffee. "Oh yeah? She hasn't talked about him to be honest."
Pat groans and leans back into the chair, "Jesus Christ, he was a nightmare. Jess used to call him an energy vampire or a leech because he'd just suck the happiness from ya' when you saw him." Pat takes another drag of the smoke, "His name was Rick-"
I let out a laugh, "There's the reason for him being a prick. Rick the prick." I chime and Pat laughs with me.
"Yeah, I wish. Man, you and Jax would've hated this guy." He tells me, "You especially. He just treated her like shit, and yeah, he was a good-looking guy with money, but god damnit, I've never met someone so controlling in my life. He had to know where she always was, and if she was ever to come see us, he had to come. Then when she broke up with him, he refused to let her get her shit from him, so I had to go to New Orleans and get it with her. It was an absolute shit show, and I hope to God I never have to see him again because I'd probably knock the kid out."
I chuckle, enjoying Pat's protective side when it's not aimed towards me. "She has an interesting taste in men."
Pat laughs, "Yeah, that's the nice way of putting it." He says as he continues his smoke and coffee. "What are you doing today?" he asks as he looks over to me.
I shrug, "Gotta' go to the clubhouse, see what's up there and then probably working on a few cars before seeing the kids at home. The usual, same shit different day." I tell the man and he nods, listening to my daily plans. "How about you?"
