They had defeated Darkstalker, and peace was restored.
Icicle was being held for her crimes.
The group of 'friends' he had was living in Jade Academy temporarily to relax.
But something was wrong for Winter.
He couldn't have 'friends'
He shouldn't have 'friends'. Whatever that word meant.
But he so wanted to. His recently thawed-out heart hungered for interaction.
Underneath the grassy expanses of the Prey Center at Jade Mountain Academy, Winter's talons curled under him, tearing up some dirt from the small cave outlet where he fled. This was no new crisis, a familiar ditzy feeling washing over him. He hid in his white wings, the black sclera of his eyes fixed on the ground.
This was a regular occurrence since he began to know his winglet. Since he had a weird group of 'friends'. Winter didn't even know what that word meant. He had no experience having friends.
Thank the Talons for Moonwatcher.
Since the moment they had met, he was intrigued. The way she was so shy, and seemingly so fragile, but so strong, was something Winter hadn't seen before. He hadn't really encountered something like that before, thanks to the circle system of the IceWings and his cruel family.
Winter longed to know more about this teardrop-scaled dragon. (A/N: Is it dragonet, or dragon in Moon's case?)
When taking down his cruel sister a couple moons cycles ago, Winter needed to decide which side he was on. Would he side with his ill-fitted winglet 'friends' to take down Icicle? Or would he choose to kill Starflight and leave with Icicle, for his standing in the IceWings and for the love of his family he so desperately yearned?
In the end, years of being an outcast from everyone, including his dear sister and Queen Glacier, had led to him taking a stand with his 'friends' for that thread of doing something right for once.
It was ironic, he thought, contemplating his decisions under the cave's churned dirt underneath the wide ravine. Winter was bred for being another chilly noble that decorated the halls of Queen Glacier. Another faker, trying to gain respect from his relatives.Yet for an IceWing, he craved affection.
It was thanks to Moon for saving him from a life of dreary coldness. Winter didn't even like the cold now.
Moon was... was... a mystery to Winter. He acted so snobbishly, pushing away the enthusiastic Kinkajou and the humorous Qibli. Everyone else simply ignored him, snapped at him, or stood up to him.
Moon still was a being so...weird to Winter. Something niggled the back of his mind like an arctic meadow vole since the scavenger-escaping incident. Even before then. She seemed weak at first glance, but there was a fire, opposite to his cold that hid behind the aura of hurt? confusion? fear?
When the frost boiled over, and Darkstalker was defeated, he took his place as the old winglet's new 'friend', he was confused. How could they forgive him? Could they not remember how mercilessly and, and cold he acted to everyone? How? Why? Did they not remember all the bullying and rudeness he forced on everyone? How unconcerned he was of their well-being?
