A/N- This is a Legend of Zelda-type AU. I originally wrote it for a video game challenge.

Marinette and Adrien live in the village of Hateno. Marinette is a baker's daughter and Adrien is a tailor's son. They became friends when they started their education at the schoolhouse and have been close ever since.

One day, Adrien confesses he feels claustrophobic in their village- he wants to go out and explore. Marinette warns him of the legendary monsters and evil things of the forest, but Adrien waves them off as merely lore; and so into the forest he goes.

Adrien promised he would return within two days to report back to Marinette about his journey, except it has now been three days and Marinette is worried to say the least. She decides to take it upon herself to pursue Adrien and save him from the horrors of the forest.

Ding!

A little bell sounded to let Marinette know her bread was ready. She rushed over to the stone brick oven and hurriedly scooped the bread out with the wooden paddle. The scent of the fresh-baked goodness wafted into the air, filling her family's bakery with the delightful scent.

"Good job!" Marinette's father complimented her handiwork. "You'll be the best baker in our village in no time!"

"Oh, Papa, I could never surpass you," Marinette smiled sweetly.

He chuckled. "You flatter me, sweetie. This old man can't be the best forever. Someone has to take the title one day..."

"I suppose. But haven't I told you before that I truly wish to be a tailor? I much more prefer fabrics and needles to flour and bowls."

"I know, I know, but I father can wish. Say, where's that friend of yours?"

Marinette looked at him quizzically. "Which friend? Alya? Adrien?"

"Adrien! That's the boy."

"Oh, I'm not quite sure," Marinette placed a finger in her chin. "Probably helping his father in their embroidery."

"Does he also want to be a tailor?"

"No, Papa. Adrien has... other dreams. His father desperately wants him to be a tailor, but Adrien doesn't think it suits him- and I agree. He doesn't have the hands to sew."

"Mm, I see. Well, I best be off to the post office. They close soon, and I need our weekly delivery of sugar!" Marinette's father took off his apron and laid it gently on a crate. "See you late, cupcake."

"See you later, Papa!" Marinette waved as he father left the bakery.

Marinette also took off her apron and hung it up on a small metal hook nailed into the wall. Sunset was approaching, and she wanted to meet up with Adrien to catch the view.

As quickly as she could, Marinette ran to the Agreste Embroidery, the most popular tailor shop in all of Hateno Village.

Gathering herself outside the door, Marinette wiped the beads of sweat that had collected on her forehead and straightened her dress. Then, she opened the door as smoothly as possible.

All did not go according to plan, for the door slammed into the wall upon her opening it. "Whoops," she squeaked as she shut the door, this time being much more quiet.

Adrien looked up from his task of sorting fabrics. "Hey, Marinette!"

"Hey, Adrien. You almost ready?"

"Mmhm," he hummed in reply. "Just have these last few satins to put away, and I'll be ready to go!"

After finishing his job, Adrien dashed over to Marinette's side. "Shall we head off, m'lady?"
