A couple days later, the men in charge leave for a meeting with the governor. I'll admit that I am worried, Rick took Hershel and my father with him. But I worry any time my father leaves- it's just a part of my nature. I begged and begged to go with them but ultimately my requests were denied.

Instead I get the joy of being on diaper duty. Okay maybe not diaper duty but I did have to change Judith's diaper while Beth went to get her food. Who knew such a small baby could poop that much. Either way, we're preparing for a war. Reloading guns, determining how much ammo we have, you know the usual.

"Carl, come here." Glenn says holding out a box of ammo for the boy to take. "You stash these at the loading dock. All right? Beth you put more up on the catwalk. If anyone gets pinned down we need to make sure that they have plenty of ammo. I'll go work on the cage outside."

"What we should be doing, is loading some of this firepower in a truck and paying a visit to the governor." Merle says. "We know where he is right now."

"Yeah, and get my father Rick and Hershel killed in the process?" I say sarcastically. "They'd expect that and right now we're down our two strongest men, they wouldn't be prepared and they'd be stuck in the crossfire."

"When'd you become so smart?" Merle asks me.

"I've always been, you've always just been too doped up to notice." I say grabbing a gun and some ammo before leaving the room.

Soon after Carl joins me in the watchtower. I set the ammo down on the table where it can be easily found.

"You're uncle is something." Carl says setting another box of ammo on top of mine.

"Yeah, I know." I say with a sigh. "He's always been like that."

"You're dad's going to be okay." He assures.

"I know, yours will too." I tell him grabbing his hand. "They're tougher than nails."

"I wish I could take you on a date." He blurts. "I mean, obviously it'd be when we were older, so I could pick you up before the world had gone to shit."

"What are you trying to say cowboy?" I laugh.

"I'm saying that I really really, like you." He says reaching into his back pocket. "Actually on our run yesterday Michonne helped me find this, I thought you might like it and she thought it matched your personality."

He produces a bracelet. Taking it into my hands I smile. It's base is white strings holding together some white beads.

"Thanks Carl." I say hugging him. "I love it, can you help me put it on?"

"Yeah, sure." He says. I hand him my wrist and he ties the strings together in a way that they won't come loose.  When he's finished I place a chaste kiss on his lips.

But instead of ending it there, his hands find my own and we back up out of sight of the windows. We slowly find ourselves awkwardly sitting in a position that allows us to continue kissing. We stay in the guard tower for a long time and when we pull away I touch my lips where his were not too long ago.

Looking at his, they're swollen and puffy and I laugh knowing mine probably look the same. My cheeks burn and I can only imagine how red they are and Carl fidgets with his hands.

"That was nice." He says and I laugh.

"Yeah." I respond. "Is that what kids our age did before the turn?"

"Probably not," He says. "but hey, we don't have time to waste."

"You're right." I giggle. "We should probably go back."

We return to Merle and Glenn in a wrestling match. Michonne and Maggie attempting to pull the two men apart. Beth raises a gun and fires it into the air. That's one way to get their attention.

"Let me go!" Merle yells. "Let me go!"

The two women reluctantly let him go and he storms off into the cell block.  Looking apologetically I follow my uncle.

"Merle!" I yell at him once we're out of range of the others. "What the hell was that?"

"You best watch your mouth Cherokee." He mutters trying to find another exit other than the one Glenn was blocking him from.

"Listen, I don't know what is going on inside of that fat head of yours but you aren't above the rules here. You're not in charge here. You have to respect the people here because you're already on thin ice." I scream.

"You're daddy needs to put your ass in place." He says. "You always go around talking to your elders like that?"

"Only when they're acting like a child." I don't seem to get through to him and after a moment of silence I speak up again before leaving. "I love you Merle, you might be an asshole to me but you're family. Don't do anything stupid."

He doesn't say anything as I leave and I end up retreating to my cell. Carl dropped off some of his comic books so I occupy myself with those until my dad gets back.

"Heard that you spoke to Merle." He tells me.

"Just what he needed to hear." I respond.

"Come on," He says nodding his head. "Rick's gotta announcement."

When we exit the cell, Rick has a sniper in his hands.

"So I met this Governor." He states. "Sat with him for quite a while."

"Just the two of you?" Merle interrupts.

"Yeah."

"Should've gone when we had the chance bro." Merle says leaving.

"He wants the prison, he wants us gone. Dead. He wants us Dead for what we did to Woodbury." Rick pauses and takes a breath before looking each and everyone of us in the eye.

"We're going to war."
