My surrounding were unfamiliar when I woke up. My canary yellow sheets were blue and not nearly as warm. The world was spinning, and closing my eyes wasn't helping either. The night before flashed from the cavernous parts of mind. The flickering tv mounted on the wall was casing a deeper pain then I could imagine. Anything past that light was just blank. Gone.
"Oh my god Cammie! You're awake!" The red head I knew for most of my life came bounding into room. Her arms barely straining to hold all the flowers and gift overflowing. In that moment my smile just couldn't contain itself. My happy tears seem to stream down my face at the sight of Madison.
I couldn't seem to form a sentence hiccuping through my greeting. "Maddi." The singe recognition was all she need as she dropped the gifts now left forgotten. Hugging me as best she could on the bed. I had never known Madison to cry, the headstrong girl was my pillar of strength. But in this moment neither of us cared as we cried to be alive. We didn't need much but the silence to fill the room to know we weren't just grasping at straws.
"I was so worried when I saw the cars around your house. They were everywhere! And when the ambulance showed up! I just couldn't stand to wait I barged in. " her sobs mingling with my own.
She took a breath and pulled away staring into my eyes. I don't know what she was searching for, but she came out disappointed when she couldn't find it. " You should of told me about your mother."
Those were the word I knew she would say. I couldn't bare myself to look her truthfully in the eyes and instead focused on her nose.
"Camie! I'm serious! She could of done a lot worse then just hit you! They found a gun underneath her pillow! A Gun!" Her voice raising As I tried to figure out her words. It's was like I was in a different story.
"Hit-"
"You should of told me. Jona and I could of helped you."
"I'm sorry."
She gave a Curt nod and wrapped me in a bother embrace.
"We'll find that bad woman Cammie. She not allowed to feel guilty for her actions now. We'll find her." She murmur against my blonde but I knew. They weren't going to find her, because something already found her.
Maddison stayed for a while picking up the gifts that she unceremoniously dropped on the floor earlier. There were tons of letters, flowers and gifts. Jona and Maddi had given me a giant teddy bear and keys to their apartment down on 24th street. I knew it was wise for me to keep the gift but something was nagging to go back to the house.
The nurses came by regular to check my blood pressure and to give me meals. I had asked once when I was going to be able to go back home. The nurse in question had look at me in shock, and patted my hand and said "if your good tonight I'll have the doctor sign your paper for tomorrow." She had given a wink and left with her notebook. I heard a lot about the doctor in charge of me but never officially saw him. I was told that I had impeccable timing and was always asleep when he came.
