I sat down upon the top of the cliff. I stared at the landscape so far below me. I lifted my head as the wind kicked up. The cold breeze felt good as it flowed through my fur. I looked down at the landscape again. Suddenly, I saw a brown and blue figure rush across a field to the cover of trees. It looked like a wolf. But, no wolf had blue fur. I knew it was an intruder. I turned around and climbed down the hill. I climbed down to the field and sniffed the air. I picked up the scent of the intruder. I followed it into the tree line and down to a small river. I spotted the strangely colored intruder drinking from the river. I snuck up behind the wolf. I adjusted to attack, when they turned around and made eye contact. Yet, they didn't seem surprised. It was a male. His fur was beautiful. The brown almost looked gold in the light and the blue looked like water. His eyes seemed to glow.
He said, "Hello, Cloudheart. My name is Amberwing. I have come to deliver news. Someone is coming for you. They won't hurt you. When they say you must leave, then you must go with them. It is for your own good. Do as they say. If you do, you will know who you are. For you, are no ordinary wolf." Then... The mysterious one disappeared into thin air. Without another word.
I returned to the pack hollow. I was still confused. But, I knew that the mysterious one wasn't lying to me. I knew that I had to do as he had said. And... I wanted to know who I really was.
I was approaching my den when the alpha called out my name. I turned to him and bowed my head. I tucked my tail between my legs, flattened my ears against my head, touched my nose to the ground, and let my belly touch the ground. He said, "You may stand, Cloudheart." I nodded and stood up. I made eye contact with him and held it. He said, "Where were you?" I didn't want to tell him about the mysterious one. But, I had to at least tell him what I was doing. I replied, "I was out on patrol, Sir. Nothing new, except for a hedgehog family that moved into a fallen tree about 80 yards west outside the hollow, Sir." He nodded. The alpha ordered, "Send Ripplestar and Oakwhisker off to greet our new neighbors. Have them take a couple welcoming gifts, too." I nodded. "You are excused, Cloudheart." I stood up and thanked him. I marched off to the patrol den. I entered finding Oakwhisker, Ripplestar, and a couple other patrol wolves on break. I talked to Oakwhisker and Ripplestar, "Alpha Blackpond says to take a couple of welcoming gifts and greet our new neighboring family of hedgehogs. They live 80 yards west of the hollow in a fallen tree. Off you go, Oakwhisker and Ripplestar." They nodded and ran off. I then returned to my den. I curled up in my warm leafy bed. My eyelids sealed shut. I was soon whisked off into the land of dreams.
