Mei's POV
It's currently lunch time. I'm with Himeko and the other Council members at the conference room. I have been trying to keep my focus on the tasks and requests but my mind just keeps wondering elsewhere!.... Well, no, that's not exactly true. My mind keeps focusing on Yuzu and that... Speech? She gave at the classroom.
'Really now, what is wrong with Yuzu? She is being weird.... Much
more than usual!'"President!" I turned my head to Maruta, who looks a bit worn out. "What seems to be bothering you Maruta?"
"President, we have been calling you for the last few minutes and you wouldn't respond. Are you alright?"
I slightly blush at my unusual unfocused behavior.
"I assure you I am quite fine. Now, what did you want to discuss?""Nothing, surprisingly. The council does not have any more work to do for today, so we were debating on whether or not leaving right after school."
"Well, I see no problem with that. We shall leave early today then." I say just as the bell rings for the continuation of the few remaining classes of today.
The council members had already left and it was just me and Himeko left in the room.
"Ne, Mei... I heard that your class had some trouble with Yuzu today. It appears that she confronted with our history teacher, Takiko-Sensei. Would that rumours be true?"
I freeze at the mention of today's events. "....Yes, that is quite right. Although, I would like to assure you that Yuzu was only defending herself. Sensei was way out of line, but Yuzu resolved, well somewhat, the situation calmly."
"Really? Well I would love to see that. That girl is never calm and collected. Well, not until today's morning at least. I would be lying if saying that she didn't fail to surprise me today. Maybe some lessons are finally sticking to her. Or perhaps she grew mature after all. Who knows?"
"Yes, her behavior sure was quite strange..." I respond, resuming my previous thoughts about Yuzu.
"Meimei, we may be late if you don't come quickly!" I nod and start walking to my classroom, although a few voices interrupted my trail.
"Himeko, please continue on without me." Without waiting for a response, I walk to the Teacher Conference Room, where I think I hear Yuzu's voice. Just then, the door opens, revealing our math teacher.
"Oh, Miss Aihara! I was just about to go fetch you. Could you please follow me inside?" I bow and nod, going inside and letting the teacher lead me to a table where all of the school's faculty were.
"I got Aihara Mei Takiko. Please miss, take a seat." I grab the closest chair to me and sit down. The whole faculty was sitting within a circle and not far away sat Yuzu, completely unfazed with all the people staring at her. When she saw me she sent me a bright smile. I send a small smile back at her, trying my best not to get flustered. 'When did I grow this weak to Yuzu's advances?!'
"Miss Aihara! Thank you for attending this meeting. As you see from all the faculty gathered here, there is a bothering situation we must address." He then turned to look at Yuzu, with a not so welcome look.
"Aihara Yuzu, is it true that today you didn't only fail to complete your assignment to represent in class, but you also talked back to a teacher, and much more an older person than yourself?" At this, Yuzu chuckled. 'Is she crazy?!'
Yuzu's POV
'Older he says? I wonder how many years he counted out...' "What could could ever be funny in this situation?" I got a few disappointed or disapproving looks from here and there. I also took notice of Mei's upset face. With a smile on my face, I respond.
"Were I to tell you what makes this situation amusing, you would either run away and call the police or call me crazy, young man."
"Oh, here we go again. You better stop calling me that Aihara! You see, my fellow coworkers, this is the definition she called me on my lesson. Isn't that an example of poor behavior and communication?"
"Please pardon me young man, but could you please explain what is so much bothering you that you called all these young people here too?"
"The one thing that bothers me is that you are being disrespectfull to your superiors and over something you hold no power on! You are assigned with some tasks you ought to complete, that's what school is!" Gradually he started adding more volume on his words. I sighed at his recklessness. 'Youngsters these days...'
"Just as I told you before, making a fuss over something won't change anything. And, for your information boy, learning and education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it. Education is not just reading, writing and memorizing complex definitions. Education must not only teach work, but teach life. You teachers always use complex ways of explaining something. But, you know what? If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."
I stand up and go over to the young man, who is once again speechless, much like everyone else.
Placing a hand on his shoulder, I smile and say: "I recognize that you are an 'expert' in history. But you shall never forget that the expert in anything was once a beginner. You weren't born with knowledge. And... Believe me when I say that knowing too much can hurt you...in every way possible..." With that, I step out but not without bowing. "Thank you for listening."
