Mm...I'm really nervous about this chapter. I hope I didn't get anything wrong :0 Anyway, this chapter is dedicated to my best friend @SydneyIrons (Nico's friend is named after her) because she helped me with a lot of the research. LOVE YOU, SYD! Thank you for all the reads and the positive feedback. It's really encouraging and is taking away some of my doubts about writing this fanfic. You guys rock ♥ Enjoy chapter three!

Nico's POV

Sydney held the door open for me as I lugged my heavy bags outside. I had tied Oliver’s leash to a nearby bike stand so he’d stay put. “Well that’s about it, I think,” I say, out of breath.

Sydney nods solemnly and shuts the door to the apartment building lobby. She picks up one of my bags and hails us a taxi.

I had called Zayn early in the morning, just as I was instructed to. I let him know that I was all packed and ready to leave. He had told me to meet them at the hotel they were staying at, where their tour bus would be parked behind. I still wasn’t sure if he’d told management that he took it upon himself to hire me without even seeing a resume or holding a proper interview.

I untie Oliver’s leash and scoop him up. Sydney is just climbing into a taxi, and, seeing that she has already moved all of my bags inside the car, I hop inside.

I heave a sigh. “It would’ve been nice to know about this sooner, I must admit.”

            “You’re telling me,” she mumbles.

            “What’s that?”

She hesitates, but then shakes her head. “Well I might as well tell you that I wasn’t exactly thrilled when you told me you were leaving to go on tour with a boy band from the UK.”

I stare down at Oliver, who is sitting in my lap. “I know,” I say quietly.

She continues. “And I was less than thrilled to find out that my very best friend had been hiding the important fact that she’d been out of money and barely eating anything for months.”

            “I’m sorry.”

I see a tear fall from Sydney’s face onto her pants. “You could’ve told me, you know. You didn’t have to hide it. I could’ve helped.”

“But that’s just the thing,” I say as I shift my gaze towards her. “I didn’t want to worry you, and I certainly didn’t want to trouble you or your family for anything.”

She nods and gives a quiet, sad laugh. “I guess I should’ve expected that from you, Nico.”

I give her a quizzical look, not entirely understanding what she means by that. Or if I should be offended or flattered. I decide to not ask though, seeing as this is obviously a sensitive topic for her. I clear my throat. “You know you could always visit me while I’m on tour with the boys. You know, if you want to get out of the city and see a little bit more of what this country has to offer.” I give her a nudge with my elbow.

She smiles. “I might take you up on that offer. We’ll see.”

I smile back and give her a hug.

“Hey, I wanted to ask you,” she says as she pulls back. “What are you going to do once the tour is over? Where you’re going to live, I mean.”
