So it came to me suddenly: I needed to write a chapter from Zayn's point of veiw. I wanted my readers to know exactly what I was making Zayn think and feel. And I'm so pleased with this chapter, which makes me want to ask you your opinion. Along with Nico's point of view, would you all like to see Zayn's point of view every once in a while? I'm honestly considering it, I feel like it'd complete the story. I also might add one or two chapters from Harry's point of view, but it wouldn't be a regular thing. So after reading this chapter, please let me know what I should do! Also, for those of you wondering, I took the chapter title from a She & Him song ^.^ Give it a listen, it fits well with Zayn's feelings.

Zayn’s POV

She’s so clueless, she really is. It frustrates me that she can’t see it, even though I try to make it so clear. I just wish she would notice. But more than anything, I wish I didn’t have to lose her to Harry.

She’s loved him all along, I could tell. I could even see it in her eyes the first time I met her, the slight disappointment of having met me instead of Harry. She’s so pure of heart, though, that I know it wasn’t on purpose. So I thought I could change her mind by showing her I’m there for her, by giving her an opportunity that would change her whole life. But it was to no avail because, after all, it’s nearly impossible to win over a heart that already belongs to someone else.

So I bit my tongue while still dropping subtle hints. Always making sure she was comfortable, making sure she’s alright, even catching her when she slips in a puddle of milk.  Even if she can’t return my feelings, I felt like I owed it to her to show her how much I care.

But eventually, it got to be too much to bear, seeing her and Harry get closer and closer. Harry getting even more confident each day, her falling for him even further. I finally decided to come out and tell her how I feel about her, just to get it off my chest. But I didn’t get a chance. Harry got to her before I even got two words in. My gut says he is going to confess his feelings, he’s been talking about it with Louis for three days now.

I can’t help but blame myself. It’s my fault for not telling her sooner, for thinking she’d notice my hints. If I would’ve told her sooner that I fell in love with her that day I saved her dog, that day I first laid eyes on her, would it have been different? Would she have chosen me instead?

My gut feeling is proven correct when I see Harry and Nico walking back over to where we are all crowded ten minutes after he led her off. My heart sinks when I see her hand in his.

I pretend to put my full attention on the ball I’m kicking back and forth with Niall. It doesn’t play off too well, though, because when Niall kicks the ball back, it soars straight past me.

“C’mon, Zayn!” Niall throws his hands up.

I turn my head in the direction of Harry and Nico. I see them approach Louis, who is laughing and giving Harry a thumbs up. Nico is smiling so brightly, her cheeks flushed. She’s holding on tightly to Harry, probably so she doesn’t fall over from her shaking legs. This is a dream come true for her, I just know it.

“Sorry,” I mutter to Niall, turning my head away. I’m starting to feel nauseous, and if I stare at them any longer who knows what I’ll do.

Liam studies me for a second from the side. “Something wrong, Zayn?”

I shake my head. “Nope. I’m fine.”

“How convincing,” Niall says sarcastically.

“Yeah, really,” Liam agrees.

Finally, Niall notices the commotion going on between Louis, Harry, and Nico in the distance. “What’s going on?”

“Who knows,” I shrug.

Liam turns slightly, and puts his hand to his chin. “Could it be…?”

Niall jumps up and laughs. “He finally did it!”

Liam smiles and nods. “Looks like you and I owe Louis some money.”

Niall stops jumping and gets a disappointed look on his face. “Oh yeah, I forgot.”

I stare at the two of them in disbelief. “Wait a second. You three bet on how long it’d take Harry to ask Nico out, didn’t you?”

The two of them stare at me, clearly confused.

“You mean Louis didn’t convince you to get in on the bet too?” Liam asks.

I shake my head. This is honestly the first time I’m hearing of this bet.

Niall tilts his head a bit to the side. “I thought for sure he’d ask you too. I wonder why-“

“It doesn’t matter, I wouldn’t have placed any bet anyway,” I cut Niall off.

“You don’t need to get snappy, Zayn, we’re just having a little fun,” he frowns.

Liam nods in agreement. “The only harm that’s being done is that of money being taken from our wallets.”

Niall frowns. “Twenty five pounds, too.”

“Doesn’t matter, it’s not right,” I tell them. “How long did you bet on anyway?”

“I said a month and Niall said two weeks,” he answers. “What in the world has gotten into you, Zayn?”

“Nothing!” I snap.

They both look at me, shocked. I guess none of them picked up on my hints towards Nico, none of them know I love her. So I really shouldn’t be treating them like this.

I take a deep breath. “Nothing,” I repeat, this time in a calmer manner. “I’m sorry, I’m just not…feeling well, that’s all.”

“Oh no,” Liam frowns. “I hope you’re not catching a cold.”

“That wouldn’t be good at all,” Niall adds.

I shake my head. “I’ll be okay, don’t worry.”

Liam nods slowly, staring at me through narrowed eyes. For a moment I’m worried that he’s figured out the situation, why I’m acting strange. But before he says anything, Niall notices Harry, Nico, and Louis starting to approach us.

“Hey!” he calls out. He claps Harry on the back, and pulls Nico into a huge hug. She looks startled for a moment, unsure of what to do. Finally, she reluctantly hugs him back, blushing.

I can’t help but chuckle a bit under my breath. She’s taken by surprise so easily, and she’s so unsure of herself. It’s part of what I like about her so much.

She notices me standing off to the side and flashes me a warm smile. She lets go of Harry’s hand finally and almost skips out of joy towards me. “Can you believe it? I’m so stupid, I didn’t think he actually liked me!” she laughs.

Her face is still pink from Niall’s hug, and her laugh is as clear as a bell. Her hazel eyes shine brightly as the sky darkens, the wind blowing her long brown hair just enough so that she has to continuously move it out of her face and tuck strands behind her ears.

“You really like Harry? I mean really really like him?” I ask her.

She knits her eyebrows together and gives me a questioning look. “Yes, I do.”

I knew that would be her answer. “Okay,” I nod.

“Okay?”

“Yes. If you’re sure you really like him, and you’re sure that he makes you happy, then nothing else matters, right?”

She hesitates, still puzzled. “Uh, I guess…I mean, er, yes.”

I smile, even though it hurts. “Then if you’re happy, I’m happy.”

“Really?” she smiles even wider.

I’m lying through my teeth, I know. But just to see her warm smile again and again, I’ll say anything. I could do it, pretend to be happy for her and Harry for as long as it takes. Just as long as he doesn’t make her smile disappear, I could do it.

“Yes, really.”
