My name is Jessica Killthorne. And I am most certainly not human. I know I know, what a great way to start off a story right? Wrong. Unless you were being sarcastic. It's crazy right? If I'm not human, then what am I? Just sit back, relax, and enjoy this story that you are about to read in just a few words. Or don't. It's literally entirely up to you. Okay, bye!
Present day
"Jessica! Come down for breakfast sweetie! I made your favorite!!" "Omg mom you didn't!"
Mom smiled. "Why yes I did! Pancakes, eggs, cheese grits, sausage, and three slices of bacon with blueberry syrup!" "Sunny side up!" We said at the same time. I really enjoyed my relationship with my mother. Sometimes it didn't seem as if she had been on this planet for over a thousand years. Sometimes. And I loved it when we had times like this, times where even breakfast seemed normal for us. "Jessica! Did you wear my fucking uniform AGAIN?" I turned my head to see my older sister, Omera, blushing a bright red which made her tan skin look terrible in the bathroom lighting. "Um, watch your mouth up there!" My mother called. "Well can you please tell your daughter to stay the hell out of my closet?!" "I didn't raid your closet this time, Mera. Your uniform already looked a mess, and it looks even worse with you in it." Omera's hair began to rise and her eyes had begun to glow a deep and rich blue. "Oh what are you gonna do, make me slap myself? Power down, witch." I smiled, a cocky, bitchy little smile. I know my big sister despises when I call her that. Although not necessarily a witch, she looks terrifying when she uses her powers. And although we have our differences, she still manages to show me love, despite the 3 year age difference. She sighed, and her hair rested on her shoulders again, no longer defying the laws of physics. Her eyes returned to their normal golden color. "Alright, you little brat. Just make sure you stay the hell out of my room next time or I'll make sure you regret your decision." She gave me a small smirk and adjusted her skirt, then proceeded to run downstairs to collect her breakfast. I ran into the bathroom to check today's makeup. Soft, and close to fresh faced, pink gloss to make my tan skin pop out, and my green eyes glow. A little highlight, and BAM! I'm ready for school. "Jess hurry UP! You're going to be late for the first day of THE ACADEMY!!" Ahh, the academy for the freaks and the deformed. Or, better known as, "Academy aliquid de anathemate" English translation? Academy of the Accursed. Why the hell did I have to be born such a weirdo! "I'm coming, I'm coming!" I checked myself one last time in the bathroom mirror and let out a brief sigh. Turning around, I bolted downstairs and grabbed my breakfast. Our house was quite big, it sat directly on the bay of San Francisco. The sun shown directly on our house during evening sunsets which made our house the perfect selfie station. I scoffed down a pancake and looked at my mother, mouth full of food, syrup dripping out of my mouth. "You should see how much of an idiot you look right now, Jess." My sister mocked. "Oh Ha-Ha Mera." "I must do admit, you look rather.. special." Added my Mom. My sister let out a nice snicker. I stuck out my tongue, not caring that 90 percent of the food I just chewed was still in my mouth. "Now remember, stay alive! No fighting with other accursed! No eating anyone! And remember," "No destroying the school." I finished. My mother gave me a hug, something she rarely does. She planted a kiss on my forehead. "I love you, my sweet. Don't you ever forget that." Suddenly, the house had begun to shake. Bright, flashing lights filled the house with spectacular flare and glamour. A stone door appeared in the middle of the living room, etched with ancient symbols that I couldn't quite make out. "Welp, that's our que." Omera said, heading straight for the door. "Don't forget your phone sweetie!" "Oh, right!" She said, jogging back to the table to grab her prized possession. "Okay now I'm ready." She opened the door and a bright white light seemed to engulf her, and she disappeared into it, as the light itself had begun to encompass her. "Be safe, my love." I smiled back at my mother, walking to the portal that would change my life forever. "I love you momma." She smiled, her dazzling white teeth glistening in the light. "I know, little one. I know." I stepped into the light. Wind ripped passed my hair, my body tearing into thousands of pieces as it was being ripped through reality and being sucked into a dimension alternate from itself. I felt cold and hot, I felt alive and dead. I felt what it felt to exist, and not exist, at the same time. And then, just like that, I was standing in front of a large iron gate, the same very gates that would change my life forever. If I could talk to my past self, I would definitely tell myself to turn back. Go home! Oh well, too late for that now huh?
