I walked a walk of shame to the fifth floor, tired , depressed, and battered. I was in pain. Excruciating pain. I grabbed my chest as I pressed my way to the classroom placement room. It was a large wooden door, two pillars on either side. A gargoyle turned its head, briefly startling me. It's red eyes seemed to peer into my soul. "State your name!" It commanded. I nervously stammered. "Je-Jessica Killthorne!" The gargoyle seemed to begin to process the information. "Welcome." It said, it's voice deep and threatening. The gigantic doors creaked open, showing a room that was full of light. Literally. Light particles floated around me as I stepped into the room, some began to connect to my arm. They felt warm, happy. It made me smile, as I remembered having this feeling as a child with my mother. My father, I had never known. They found his body all the way in Los Angles after The Council of the Seven Kingdoms found out that my mother had committed the worst crime of all: mating with a mortal. I always wondered what it would be like to have a father, or how I would've turned out. But my mother raised me so well, that I never truly gave it much thought. A hand grabbed me on my shoulder, knocking me out of memory lane. The light particles floated off of me, and I realized that I had been sitting in a chair, in a classroom that had no chairs, no desk, and a window that showed the courtyard down below. A strange woman stared intently into my eyes, a bewildered look plastered across her face. She had beautiful violet eyes, and hair as dark as the night's sky. Combined with her glossy fair skin, she was absolutely gorgeous. She looked no older than 20 in mortal years.
"Funny," she began, "I'm not picking up any markings from you at the moment." She placed her right hand on my forehead and and began to speak an incantation. "ego non video, quid mihi revelare.." "Reveal to me what I cannot see." I said under my breath. A warm sensation flooded my body, from my head down to the soles of my feet. Nervous and creeped out, I decided to make small conversation. "Umm, so how long have I been here?" "SILENCE!" She yelled, which caused me to jump in my seat. I closed my eyes and focused with her. Brilliant purple light filled my eyes, despise my eyes even being closed. An image had begun to form inside of my brain of several different pillars, made entirely of solid gold. Atop each pillar sat several different flames, each flame possessing its own color. Blue flames, red flames, yellow flames, green flames, and purple flames, in order from right to left. "So, am I supposed to like, choose a flame or something?" I asked. "No," she began, "go to the flame, or flames, that attract you the most. Depending on which flame you choose, that will reveal your marking, or markings, to me, and help me place you in the appropriate classes." "Oh, okay. No pressure." I replied. I exhaled, and focused on each flame to see which one I was drawn to the most. I waited. And waited. And.. I waited. Nothing. I folded my arms and let out a sigh. This SEEMED pointless. I squinted inside the vision to see if that would work too. Nothing. "Try harder!" The woman yelled."I AM TRYING HARD! GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!" I yelled in frustration. The red flame exploded violently, as it grew and became hotter and hotter. "Is that supposed to be happening?" I asked inside my vision. "Yes, just let it happen." The flame flew towards me, and it went inside of my body, entering me through any open hole it could find. Searing heat filled my nose, my eyes, my ears, and my mouth. My feet lifted off of the ground. My veins on my right arm had turned red, as my body adjusted to the strange new power that had just grown within me. I was shaking. I felt like I was about to explode. Just when I thought I was getting the flame under control, ANOTHER flame chased through the air, flying off of the pillar and filling my body with it's excruciating heat. I could feel my body, in the real world, convulsing as the power within me had become too much to handle at a time. "Calm down!" The woman shouted. "If you don't relax , the power you have been granted can kill you!" "I'm.. TRYINGG!" I yelled, clenching my teeth and fighting the pain that I was currently experiencing. The last of the flames entered my nose, and my feet slowly connected to the ground once more. I sighed, relieved, but shaken. I looked at my arms; my veins were now no longer glowing, and were back to normal. "Magnificent!" The woman exclaimed. "A first year, manifesting NOT ONE, but TWO powerful markings on her first day? You HAVE to be shown to Headmaster Griffin! Come with me, dear!" She grabbed my hand, not giving me time to protest, and threw the doors open to the empty room and out into the hallway. "Make way, make way! A new powerhouse has set FOOT at the academy!" Students stared in awe and wonder at me, and some gave death glares and began to whisper among their peers about me. Amongst the students, I saw my sister, trying to see who the new 'powerhouse' was. Her mouth flung open, and she watched as the woman with the violet eyes dragged me to the headmaster's office. My cheeks flushed red, and I gave her a soft shrug and continued to keep up the pace with the dark haired woman. We arrived at two large doors, intricate patterns carved into them. She placed her hand on the doors, and the patterns lit up, and slowly flew open. "Follow me." She said, leading me into a large room with red carpeting; Golden suits of armor lined the walls, paintings of former headmasters loomed over me, each with their own wise and judgemental glares, and a golden chandelier hung from the terribly high ceiling. In front of me was a large table, and on the other end sat a younger looking man, 40's looking, brown beard and long, brown hair. His eyes were green, and he had a playful smile playing at his lips. "What brings you to my office on your first day at the academy?" He asked. "Umm.. I... I-" "Sit down, please." He offered, gesturing towards the seat right across from him. "You too, Miss Pursh." He said, waving his hand in a circular motion. A chair silently slid across the room and under Miss Pursh, and she sat down beside me and faced her boss' authoritative gaze. "Well you see, Miss Killthorne has exhibited a wide range of MULTIPLE abilities in only her first day at the academy. I have never seen anything like it! And from the looks of it, she stills has room for more potential markings to manifest in her time at the academy! I have never read someone with so much budding power and potential." She stated. "What are her Markings?" The man asked, intrigued. "Mental and Elemental, sir." His eyes widened. "Astonishing! Aren't you the forbidden halfbreed that Regent Miles warned me about?" "He warned you about me?" I asked, obviously shocked and appalled
at his statement. "Nevermind that. What classes have you placed her in, Miss Pursh?" "Well, according to her power levels, she will need to take Elemental practice courses as WELL as mental. So the obvious choices would be to schedule her for both course classes as well as herbology and world history classes." "That can be done." He replied. He snapped his fingers and a piece of paper appeared in my hand. "This will be your schedule for the rest of the year, young lady. It is imperative that you keep up with this piece of paper or memorize it at the least." I nodded. "Well, off you go then. Stay out of trouble, and I look forward to seeing the bright young woman you will become!" I grabbed my papers and excused myself from the room. After taking a quick peep at my schedule, I knew I was going to be pretty booked all year. Sigh. That's what you get when you're half immortal being, right?"

"We need to keep an eye on her." Miss Pursh whispered. "I know.. it seems as though her powers are growing at a rapid rate. She might prove to be just as powerful as Diana." "Her mother? The little Mutt's mother is diana the conjurer? The only Accursed being with the potential to cast conjugation spells?" The head master nodded. "What a shame. The potential that child could have had. She could have been the next ruler of this land! No one wants a filthy halfling ruling over them. Disgusting!" Ms. Pursh lifted her nose in utter disgust. "Which is why" he began, "The child must not know that the TRUE heir to the throne, is her sister. Regent Miles is only a fake, a stand in for the true ruler of Nivra, which is Diana." Miss Pursh was shocked at this statement. "Those are WILD accusations, headmaster. Is there any proof in your statements?" "The true royal bloodline were born with multiple markings. While the princesses only possess one, and our Regent only possess 3, while the TRUE monarch would possess-" "All five." She finished. "Amazing!" "Yes, but this news mustn't ever leave this room. For if it does, the kingdoms would be at chaos, and we would have to strip someone of their powers, give it, they spread the word." "That sounds terrifying! But.. I'm afraid.. it's a bit too late for that." Said Miss Pursh. "What do you mean?" Asked the headmaster. "Because," She said, "some secrets are just meant to be revealed...EXPULSO!" She yelled. "No! What are you-" suddenly, the headmaster's eyes went white. His long, beautiful brown hair turned grey, and the twinkle in his eyes disappeared. "I turned your heart into stone, silly." She said. A wicked smiled was plastered across her face. "The halfling is royalty, hmm? Let's see how the Regent feels about this.. earth-shattering news. AHAHAHAHAHA! Foolish old man." She leaned over the headmaster's corpse, and slid her tongue between his lips. "You really didn't know when to shut the fuck up, now did you."
