Daniel threw another piece of popcorn into the air and effortlessly caught it in my mouth. He turned to James and grinned.
"A ha! That's ten in a row!" He declared proudly. James smiled and rolled his eyes.
"It's just popcorn, man. Anyone can do that."
"Not you, I guess."
"Hey, shut up."
Daniel smiled devilishly and spun in his work chair. He hated working late nights, a bunch of boring computer work just staring back at him. And frankly, he also hated James. Sure, he seemed pleasant on the outside, but if you got close to him like Daniel had, he was just an overall mood dropper. It was just his luck that he'd been assigned to the night shift with the very guy he'd come to despise. Daniel was just trying to find a way out from their "friendship" at this point.
"So, Christmas is almost here," James piped up, "anyone...special you're shopping for?" He asked. Daniel sighed, knowing right where this conversation was going to end up. He turned away from his computer again to face him.
"Yes. I'm going shopping for my boyfriend. The one I've talked about before. Remember?" Daniel said slowly. He watched James pretend to rack his brain.
"Oh right, the giant..." he trailed off, "has he gotten anything for you?" He asked.
"Yeah, he mentioned going to the store, but it could be nothing." Daniel shrugged. James suppressed a scoff.
"Yeah, he probably went to the pet store, bought you a cage and collar." He sneered. Daniel sat up straight.
"Sorry, what?" He asked in a defensive tone.
"It's only fitting. Giants don't give a shit about us. All they want is for us to be stuck at their mercy beneath their boots. You really a think a giant of all things really loves you? He's probably just warming you up to be his little pet." Daniel wished he could wipe the smug smirk crossing his brunet co-worker's face right then and there. He stood up and took a step closer, but James didn't back down.
"Don't talk about him like that..." He growled, voice wavering as he tried to keep his composure. James gave him a light shove.
"Like what? I'm only saying facts. One of these days, you'll wake up naked in a metal cage, unable to speak because of a restricting collar around your neck, and that "boyfriend" of yours will soon be your "master". Honestly if you stay with him, then you're just as pathetic as him-."
James couldn't finish his rant, as he was shoved roughly to the ground, hitting the back of his head against a metal table.
"What the fuck, asshole?!" He shouted, wiping a trace of blood from his head, "I'm getting you fired for this." He snapped. Daniel smirked and checked the time on his phone.
"It's three minutes after midnight, our shift is over, this didn't happen during work hours, so...guess you can't do anything. See you in hell, James." Daniel hissed as he grabbed his bag and left the building without another word.
Daniel didn't take the bus home. The last thing he wanted was to be around other humans that were nothing but discriminatory towards giants. He just put one foot in front of the other and trekked back to the giant side of town, home. As he walked he shot a quick text to his boyfriend:
'Omw home now. I love you so much💖💖💖'
~~~~~
Daniel wasn't sure if he'd be asleep when he got home or waiting for him, but he definitely wasn't expecting to be gently swooped from the ground in front of his human sized door into two warm callused hands.
