The first time that Dean heard them, he was six years old. He had been on his first ever hunt and had almost died, which seemed to have released a block inside of his mind.

It was like a torrent of water rushing through his mind, voices, calling out.

He had screamed out while his father had been slaughtering the monsters, and John had yelled at him, telling him to man up and be grateful that he was alive. Dean decided not to tell him of the voices.

Over the years, Dean learned to block out the voices, however it took immense control and he couldn't slip up on his focus. Eventually though, it became second nature, and the only times he listened was when Sam and John were asleep, and Dean had the peace and quiet surrounding him. It was only then that he could really listen, and be able to hear what they were saying.

A constant in the conversations was a voice the others called 'Castiel'. He was apparently the voice of reason in making the right decision, where as the one called Gabriel wanted to have fun and make pranks. Though, this 'Gabriel' must've been a pretty high authority, because all of the other voices stopped talking when he did. He gave orders sometimes too.

The first time Dean slipped up on his control was when he was 12. It had been six years since he first heard the voices, and he had gotten rather good at it. It was while he and Sam were at a new school that Dean lost it.

The school bully had picked Sam as his target, and at the first punch, Dean had ran over and shoved the kid away. The meaty boy seemed to have a lot of weight to him, and managed to boulder into Dean and shove him down. Instead of continuing his assault though, the kid walked over to Sam and started kicking him, forcing Sam onto the ground.

That was when Dean had lost it, and the voices came plunging through his mind. It jolted him forward and messed up with his mind, forcing him to kneel down and try and sort out his thoughts. That only made it worse however, and his annoyance mixed with the fact that his Sammy was currently getting beat up only fueled his anger, to the point that he eventually screamed at them to stop. The voices suddenly quieted, whispering to each other.

'How is it possible? No human can speak to us.' He heard one say.

'No human can, you are right.' Castiel then said.

They stopped then, Dean finally gaining control to go over and beat up the kid that hurt Sammy.

The second time Dean slipped up was on a hunt when he was 16. He and Sammy were fighting a vampire that had been making a feast out of the town, and they were losing the fight. The vampire was old, much older than them, and was able to outsmart them more times than not.

It was when Sammy got thrown out a window that he lost it. The voices came back, pounding against his skull and making him stumble just in time to avoid a deadly punch.

The vampire seemed to have stopped, it's eyed widening and mouth hung open.

"How is this possible?" It asked, scared. When Dean looked at it in confusion, it backed away. "Stay away from me!" It screamed, running away and leaving Dean confused and with a horrible migrain.

The third and final time that Dean lost it was when he had turned 21 and had gone on a drinking spree, not that he hadn't done it before. The woman he had taken with him had apparently been a succubus, and had almost succeeded in having sex with him when Sammy had come barging through the door with a gun, killing it. Dean, in his drunk and confused state, lost control of his mind and ended with a major headache and Sammy wondering what was wrong. It was then that Dean decided he would learn to control this thing.

He started by letting the voices wash over him, not trying to block it out. It took months of practice to not end up with a headache, and even then it could be overbearing.

He then managed to do normal daily activites, like taking a shower or brushing his teeth, while still listening.

After a few years of practice, the voices were almost like his conscious, always there, and a familiar presence that one grew attached to.

Dean never knew just what this meant.

So this is the first chapter of my Supernatural fanfic! Yay! I've always wanted to write a story about Dean having epic powers, and I finally got to it. My story HSR is still on, I'll just be writing both at the same time, so apologies ahead of time for any late updates. Thanks!
