*Lucifer's POV*
"Lucifer?" I hear the Detective calling me after getting out of the elevator. "Lucifer, you said you'd meet me at the witness's house! Where the hell were you?"
"Detective, I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't shout. Alex is trying to sleep." I call quietly.
"She what?" Chloe walks over to the couch. "Lucifer, what did you do?"
When Alex was falling asleep I took the opportunity to put my arm around her and let her use my shoulder as a pillow. It didn't take long for her to snuggle up onto my side. I brushed a strand of hair out of her face. Her long eyelashes flittered at my touch and she flinched closer to me.
"I didn't do anything, Detective. She just fell asleep and I decided to offer my insanely comfy shoulder as a pillow." I grin at the Detective who just shakes her head.
*Alex's POV*
"Lucifer! No! Tell me you didn't!" I hear the Detective whisper shouting at Lucifer.
"Detective, I don't see what the problem is!" Lucifer sounds exasperated.
"Obviously she's had trauma in her past! Don't push her! I can't believe you threatened to throw her out in the streets if she didn't answer your questions! Maybe I should find a different place for her to stay."
At this I wake up 100% and leap from the couch.
"No!" They both turn to me in shock. I feel a blush creep onto my face. "I want to stay here. Please?"
"Well of course, darling!" Lucifer looks triumphantly at Chloe, who just rolls her eyes at Lucifer.
"I can find you somewhere else, it really wouldn't be any trouble." She offers again.
"No, I'd like to stay here, thank you." I offer a small smile.
"Okay, if you're sure about that." She turns back to Lucifer. "I can get Dan to help me on this case, you stay here and work things out."
"Yes, Detective, I think that is a good idea." Lucifer never takes his eyes off of me, even when Chloe leaves.
"Thank you." I murmur. Lucifer walks towards me but stops a good five feet away.
"Darling, I want you to stay and I want to help but I need to understand. I need to know why you flinch away from people and why you can't stand any physical contact. If I don't understand then I can't treat you the way you need to be treated. I don't want to frighten you but I don't know how to be less frightening unless you tell me what scares you." His eyes look sincere and I want to believe him so bad. My entire self screams against trusting him, against trusting anyone. But on the other hand I've had no one to turn to for years, no one who has taken any interest in me and my afflictions. He intrigues me and makes me feel like a person because he doesn't treat me differently due to my shyness and my tendencies to shut people out. If anything, it's like he doesn't notice, like he just sees a regular person, not a defensive, skittish misanthrope. And because of this, I make a decision that I know I will either regret or treasure for he rest of my life.
"Okay." I agree to his terms, and also making my heart beat a million miles an hour.
"Okay?" His face breaks into a grin that makes my heart stop. He is so handsome.
"Yes." Is all I can say. I'm still in awe about how just one grin from him can make my worries seem to melt. He seems so safe.
"Alright then, shall we continue our conversation?" He gestures to the couch and takes a seat right next to me. I force myself to not react to the proximity. Stupid, he's not even that close to you.
