The Neva flows part two

Thanks to Keelafairie for letting me continue their fic and if you haven't read it then do because it is awesome.

Adrian stood holding the gun, pointing it straight at Nightmare. His finger trembled on the trigger as he tried not to look Nova in the eyes as she stood defiantly before him waiting for the bullet to come.

Nova...

Adrian's legs shook under him and all of a sudden his muscles failed. He crumpled to the ground sobbing. He couldn't, not to the girl he loved.

"Go leave this place." He said "Go and never come back." 

Nova gave him a wary look, before leaping off the building. Adrian thought he had heard a whispered thank you but maybe that was simply his imagination. Adrian walked over to the edge over which Nova had disappeared. He saw her climb to the bottom of the building using her gloves. Then she was gone. Lost in the maze of streets and alleys of Gatlon City. He couldn't help but feel he had done something right, but at the same time something terribly wrong. Adrian messaged his parents telling them that Nightmare was neutralized and fatally injured but had gotten away. A few hours later they called a meeting.

Adrian and his team shuffled into the auditorium. His father was standing on the stage, in a blue suit and tie. He stood behind a podium with a microphone in his hand. He began his speech.

"As of today there will be no more Anarchists, Nightmare is finnaly gone. The reward for her capture will be given to charity. There never was a Nova McLain she was a dream, a nightmare a fantasy created by villains." He paused for a moment letting his words sink in. "She was a nightmare to society and left scars that only time will fade. So no more talk of the Anarchists or Nightmare, the Renegades have no need for villains. Case Closed." Captain Chromium nodded his head to all the journalists and Renegades in the room and left. 

"I need some time alone." Adrian told his team, he walked out of the auditorium head down and tried to smile at prism as he passed. He got into the elevator and rose, up and up and up. Until he was on the rooftop, where it had all gone down. He looked out over the horizon as a beautiful sunset graced the horizon. How could something so beautiful still exist after all of this?

"Still..." Adrian said with a sigh. His eye caught on a figure standing on one of the taller buildings in Gatlon. A figure that looked like Nightmare. Then he blinked and she was gone, if she'd ever really been there. Had he ever really known her? Loved her? Had Insomnia ever even exister at all? Then he remembered a song that Nova used to sing late at night when it was just them at headquarters. And he sang 

"Far away,

Long ago,

Glowing dim as an ember,

Things my heart used to know...

I'll hold you dear forever."
